    Default Water Leak

Hey all, i've got a pretty nasty looking water leak coming from the front of my vr v6, water seems to be dripping off the timing cover down onto the sump, i suspect the water pump seal is shot, but the pump cover seems to be dry. All the hoses are fine. Any ideas? I dont think it could be anything but the water pump... It also has milky crap throughout the cooling system. Which i may or may not look into later...

The milky crap in the cooling system does not sound good. Normally it occurs when oil is mixed with coolant. Some how oils is entering the cooling system somewhere or that you have a blown head gasket. It may not relate to the leak you have but I'd check it straight away.

Welsh plugs, intake manifold gasket has split, tighten the rings around the hose ends to be 100% sure. Just have a really good look around, as sometimes coolant can leak, then run down the block in different places and then drip onto the ground from a totally different spot. Get a bright torch and look in every possible place you can.

Sounds like the water pump leaking - it will leak from under the pump where there is a bleed hole for that purpose visible only from under the pump. The milky crap may just be soluble oil or Barrs Leaks or similar which has been added to stop the leak from the water pump. If the car is otherwise running fine I'd not worry about the possibility of a head gasket blown till later if at all.

Sounds like you might need a new thermostat as well. Did you replace the coolant when you replaced the water pump? Did you use the right concentration (50:50) of a good ethylene glycol coolant or the cheap coloured water variety?
