    Default Fuel Economy VS

The fuel economy I am getting from my commodore is pathetic. Just driving around town I am lucky to get 300klms from a tank. Is this common for all VS's. Any ideas/feedback would be appreciated.

do a forum search, there are heaps of fuel economy threads around

    but in a nut shell

around town expect 300-350kms (or around that) and highway from 400-550kms depending on hills, the tyres, the road surface, the fuel used, cruise control, the driver and just about any variable imaginable

honestly i would expect atleast 350-400km from a tank around town. town/motorway 400km and motorway only 500km+ easy. a good service does wonders. then look at the O2 sensors.

as above, do a search. this is a common Q with the VS models

also check ur tyre pressures aswell. and if u have heavy sit in ur car, EG: golf clubs or sumthn like that, u dont need them in the car everyday, so take them out, then u will get better economy. Cruise control, use it when u can.
dont worry, il start a ride thread soon.

Change the plugs, my economy always takes a dive when the plugs have done 30k.

Also keep the tyre pressure up, I go for 34-36psi.

yeah it all comes down to servicing really.

for a start, remove your plugs, clean them and re-gap to 1.5mm or replace them if they are rooted. get a new air filter and a new fuel filter, check the resistance on your leads and maybe replace them too, drop some octane booster + injector cleaner in the tank and see how it goes.

I was getting a good 600km from my VN V6. Just change the oil regulary, renew sensors, service tranny, keep high PSI in your tyres, clean injectors, clean air filter, Get a CAI, new sparks, leads, etc.

Just did 02 sensors in mine and makes a hell of a difference.
Every twelve months i do plugs and leads (im stock no titaniums or anything)!
And standard air filter is good. MORE AIR MORE FUEL.

I find that with reg ulp around town i will get 50ks more than Premium,
but the other way around on long distance.
but 400 around town and 550 is about normal for mine.

yes oxy sensors can have an effect on the fuel consumption, if they have failed or are failing it can cause major issues.

Don`t forget that bloody pink heater wire on the O2 sensor and or replace the O2 sensor. the ECOTEC engine stands for economy technology when in fact it has neither, lol. just out of curiosity is the buick far better on fuel or are they about the same?

I normally get abit over 400km to a tank around town then close to 550km or more on highway driving. It's just a vs executive with hardly no mods

ecotec's would probably be a lot more economic if you fit'd em to a VN. unfortunatly the VS is heavier so what the engine gains in economy and power you loose because of the extra weight it has to push around. this is the reason the VN V6's are the quickest factory models. later models made more power at each stage but gained the extra pounds at each stage to eliminate that power advantage (up to legal road speeds anyway) the factory VS ecotec tune leaves a little to be desired as does the wiring flaw with the O2 sensors and the shift points on the slush box.

i get about 400kms/tank using premium 95 (i dont use anything else). '96 VS V6 Exec has done more than 310,000kms. make sure your oil is kept up, or it will burn more petrol.

does anyone have or know where i can get a repair manual?

This was all I could find, though maybe keep looking as time goes on for a gregorys as they are the most thorough.

Just an idea check your fuel presure regulator by takeing the vacume hose off and seeing if there is any fuel in it or it smells fuely.
next some times the injectors get stuck open and need a service. If your car starts up a little rich or blows a little smoke on startup this is the prob
    I cunnt spel
