    Default Rebuild or scrap?

    decisions decisions.......

My sons VS Calais was the victim of a hit & run. The car is totalled.
I cant decide if i should transfer all the bits into another shell, or just part it out & try to get some $$$ back to pay out his loan!

    Any thoughts?

Well having pretty much just finished a complete swap (right down to the wiring), it's a LOT of work. I suggest that if you don;'t have some special attatchment to the car it may be wiser to wreck it out and put the dough (and insurance money i hope) towards buying another.

cash the rego, sell the wreck and put the money towards a nice 89 VN and start saving again. Insurance is a good thing to have, i never had and never will drive without it.

One of my daughters has an EB Falcon which has a buggered gearbox but is otherwise good for its age - wreckers offered $10 for it - said that was the going rate for Holden/Ford/Mitsu cars. Wreckers have their choice of heaps for free from backyards of rental homes (this is in Townsville) The we asked how much for a 2nd hand box to fit the Falcon - $850 fitted with 1 months warranty....I suppose they have to make a living.
Trouble with selling in Mackay is the limited market and you may have to have the parts on the market for a long time to sell but there is really no option unless you want to accept $10.

I wont waste my time selling to the wreckers.
    I think $900 for engine/box. Still driving.
Interior complete with dash, consol, carpet, rooflining, everything except stereo has to be worth more than $500! Surely?
All panels except d/s door & front guard are A1.
I'me waiting for panel shop to confirm that it is uneconomical to repair.

If u're definitely going to be pulling it apart id be interested in getting some of parts to use in mine, namely the interior fan and the level 3 dash cluster with it's loom. Only problem is it would need to be shipped down, don't feel like coming all the way up to Mackay from south Brisbane. If we can work out a reasonable price and get it shipped I'd be very interested.

You can buy a VR/S berlina for just a few grand which has a lot of calais stuff in it,just swap the better stuff from the calais into the berlina and sell off the rest.Selling the stuff you dont need should very near cover the cost of buying the berlina

I think we are just going to scrap it.
My son still owes 3k on the loan.
Still waiting for the panel shop to come around.
I have access to another VS shell, but i dont have the time to swap over. Too many projects already.
