    Default vs v6 tranny gone?

mates got a 97 vs 11, other night his missus was driving to work she went to do a u-turn and car lost its balls.
had a drive of it 2day and seems like tranny problems, go to take off from idle and just revs for awhile then SLOWLY starts moving only really struggles on take off and low speeds, any ideas?
    cheers

The most obvious question is, have you checked the fluid level or the condition (colour) of the fluid?
Sorry if you think this is a dumb question but I have no idea how knowledgeable you are about transmissions.

how much oil should be put in after dropping the pan regardless of what was in there because it mightve been abit low,
how much should come out and go back in?

Don't worry about how much comes out and goes in, use the markings on the dipstick to determine the correct amount. Around 4.8 litres should go in if you empty the pan.

I did have a problem with my vs with only 28000 km on it.The car had no first gear it was taking off in second gear. The problem was a solinoid in the gear box worth around $60 dollars.I had it replaced quickly as not to do to much damage to transmittion. This did come up with a fault code on dash.I dont know if this will help.
