    Default Another strange cooling problem

G'day guys, just wondering if you could help me out with a major pain in the a... VS Wagon V6 Ecotec, heads, waterpump, radiator and all hoses changed but still it has a leak??? No visable sign of leak anywhere. Been pressure tested over about 4 hours, run hot then left to cool and still held plenty of pressure??? Please help as I am starting to lose it!!!!!!!!!!!

How is the expansion bottle? Is it full or empty? Try a new radiator cap, also check the tension of the water pump bolts.

It wasnt leaking when first started hunting for it, then it started from the heater hose from the steel pipe out of pump to the heater tap so changed that and tensioned pump bolts. So fixed the visable leak but still losing coolant with no signs of a leak???? Sorry, but what is the expansion bottle? Do you mean the overflow bottle?

Yes, but its called an expansion bottle. As the coolant heats it expands and goes into the bottle, when it cools, it gets sucked back into the radiator. There is an overflow pipe on the expansion bottle.

There was no sign at first, then one appeared!!! Hose from steel pipe out of pump to heater tap so changed that and retensioned pump bolts. Put new cap on with new radiator last week. Leak disappeared but still losing coolant!!! Sorry, but what is the expansion bottle? Do you mean the overflow bottle? Thanks!

The other place they leak is from the inlet manifold gaskets.

Would there be a sign that it is inlet? No signs on block or box, car goes like the clappers when pushed and idles fine. It does feel a bit rough when throttle pushed a tiny bit ( 5-10mm ) but past that it rips for a 6. Not missing though. Quickest stocker Ecotec I've driven!

Mystery coolant loss is usually the only sign unless you pull the inlet manifold off and visually inspect it.

What do I look out for on the inlet manifold or heads to confirm that was the cause?
