hey guys i want to kno what sort of economy u guys are getting out of the vs manual 8's cus yeh i want a manual and most of them are 8's... if its not tooo much more i mite just make the switchwud love that v8 sound too!
You will never regret going the V8 over the V6.
Despite what ppl think, you can actually get quite good economy out of them.
It all comes down to your driving, i usually average about 16-18 ltr/100k's but i normally give mine a squirt quite often and all my driving is short trips usually in traffic.
But as soon as you hit the highway itll drop down to like 11l/100k's, if you do a lot of highway driving you will get better consumption than a v6
im sitting on 12.6l in my v8 auto, mixed city/highway driving and not too light on the gas pedal.
its not a vr-vs, its a vn v8 calais (non roller/same as s2 vs) , its stock apart from an enclosed pod, cai and a tune (from greenfoam) if your not familiar with his tunes yet go here and have a read, Maximum perfomance VN VP VR VS V8 Commodore memcal c/o - eBay Mod Chips, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. if your getting a s3 with the roller motor it would (in theory) yield better economy yet again.
What he means is that if you get the last models with the 5.0 Litre v8 you get roller rockers and cam (in short it has a lot less friction than the older design).
These models have a bit more power and I am pretty sure were only available in Vt series 1, VS Series 3 (this is the ute as the VT ute was not around until later on).
Can someone confirm what happened with the HSV models though. Did the VS HSV cars have roller motors? or was it only with the VT?
50LTRv8
s3 statesman, utes and Vts1 had the roller cam'd V8 engines (not rockers) they also had sequencial injection. the block is also factory cleareanced for a stroker crank

don't bag the V6 (VN) to much, i get better then 12ltr/100km around town and easily better then 10ltr/100km open road and thats not taking it easy. if i baby it i would be getting less then 9 ltrs and i don't even run one of those flash foam tunes either. and i have gears as well which doesn't help

i dont know why its turning into a v6 competition but you expect the v6 to get better economy around town when driven sensibly but on the highway the v8 is quite competitive, at 110 i sit on 9.5l/100km's in overdrive, would be better if i had the extra gear but 9.5 is better than what most vn-vs v6's would be getting.
yeh i get about 12L/100k mixed and under 10L/100k highway... and thats not being too gentle either... so im happy with my economy out of the v6 but i just hate the gear box... i want a manual! so just doing my homework b4 i start looking... cus as u all know a manual box is more commonly found behind the 8's
I have to go with the V8 guys since my last car was a VS acclaim which was a V6 and now i have a VS berlina which is a V8 and fuel usage is not too different at all.For the extra power and enjoyment with the V8,its well worth it.Im currently stuck with an auto since VS berlina's 6 or 8's never came out in manual.I get 10-11L/100k's on the highway and once i get other stuff sorted with my car,its getting a 6 speed put in it(with diff ratio change) and with that I'll get tonnes more fun and better economy
commsirac.......what was the point of your reply to this thread

Ive owned 3 v6's and 2 v8's in the vn-vp shape so i know what im on about![]()
Thats the point of me asking,I dont think he has ever owned a VS V8 going off what he said so how can he say yes they are or no their not(better on the HWY)

you use half the amount of throttle and sit 500rpm lower than the v6 driving a v8 on the highway, all in all i would say it would be a close competition but the v8 definately takes the win.
a vn v6 wagon (80litre tank) gets around 750-800km's and my v8's with 80 litre tanks can get 800-850km's (probably squeeze a bit more more).
got 405 kms outa last weeks tank mixed driving squirts here n there and taking it easy..
75litre tank 72 usuable got fuel average of around 18l/100
not bad considering start stop bs
I not sure of my ltrs per 100k's but, i generally get 350k's a tank and it cost about $80 to fill @ $1.65 ltr. That just driving around town only as the missus only drives 8 min to work in it and back each day.
I have a V8 5 speed manual... havent really done much highway driving but from what ive seen when im cruising its bout 10lt/100km and when im giving it to it around town i get bout 17lt/100km... if i take it easy round town i get high 14's... a V8 manual is heaps of fun and you wont regret it, at least i dont![]()
