    Default vs ute bench seat

G'day, i was considering taking out the bucket seats in my manual vs ute and replacing it with a bench seat of some sort. I was hoping to keep as much of my centre console as possible though... Has anyone seen or done this before? Possibly somehow remove the rear compartment section of the console but keep the section around the shifter? Any feed back would be apprecitated... Cheers

I would suggest just cutting away at the plastic to the bench seat level, seal off the heat/cool vents. although you might have to relocate the hand brake, as the bench seats might come up a bit too close.
Did holden produce any manual utes with a bench seat? i think bench seat models were all colum shift =S if they did produce any, try and find a few pics on them, that might guide you...

Not too sure on all this though.

You will need to relocate the handbrake to down beside the drivers seat, but the rest should be pretty easy. With careful planning and the right tools you will be able to cut down and reshape your console so that it fits well. Because the middle seat is attached to the passenger seat, and rolls forward and back with it as it adjusts, you will need to make sure that the passenger and middle seats can not move forward enough to obstruct the shifter. I once drove a bench seat HQ kingswood that had a celica 5-speed hacked into it, and unless the front seats were in the fully back position, you could only use 1st, 3rd and 5th.

mmm... yeah i havent heard of any manual commodores that came with the bench seat. i've been considering trying to fit the console around a hilux bench seat. i'd be a nice addition to the ute as having 2 seats ****s me at times.

Ah gotcha, sozz dude i was just saying that my ute has got the rear vents so if it were in a sedan the rear passengers would have air vents but there is no piping for it.
Is this normal with all utes to minimize costs and to make it easier to manufacture utes by just using the same centre console that goes in a sedan. I presume its just easier then designing another type of console for a ute and no one see the vents at the back of the seats in a ute?

    Thanks
    Matt

Like i said, theres no vents in VN-S ute consoles. Your car has a sedan one fitted!

I doubt it, considering they made series 3 VS Utes. Chances are a previous owner just changed it!

Thats actually sorta weird, its the right series centre console since its got the series 2 badge under the armrest. So whats ment to be there at the back just a blank piece of plastic?

Yeah, just no gap for the vents.
