1995 vs commodore keeps stopping runs perfect but when you drive it will suddenly stop the engine that is runs perfect .
it is just like you have turned the key off but haveent touched the key will start perfectly again hope you understand what i mean
you will be driving along the engine stops (no coughing or farting runs perfect)then suddenly the enginr stops when you go 2 start engine after it stops starts perfect runs like a dream.

When it just stops like that and starts first kick - I'd start with the ECU. If you know someone that has a VS do a swap for a while. See how that goes.
The CAS will normally (when on it's last leg) will need to cool a little before starting. The coils/DFI unit can also be at the root of the problem. This is normally a bit of a miss fire to start with and tends to go dead.

is it hesitant to move from a stationary point when you try accelerate - like there's a flat spot there?
does it idle ok? what sort of rpm does it idle at and is it smooth (constant rpm, not moving up and down)?
when it stalls, are you using alot of power? radio/cd, headlights, wipers, etc.
there's a few things it's likely to be, but with more info it helps narrow it down.

I had the same problem Mate just get the CAS changed common problem. That was nearly a year ago all good.

ello. Well proud owner of 96 C'dore Berlina with just 40000ks on it . MINT cond!!. The car has obsoleted all self taught mechanical knowledge. (upgraded from HJ that had for 19 years). Car has twice shown all warning lights and let me drive home on battery. But then won't start. Can jump-start from booster, and no lights come on on dashboard, runs perfect. Then it happened again today, with 3 kids in the rain!. have checked battery all good, checked charge circuit ; all good. WHY is this happening: hoping fo a simple answer!!??

Symptoms...
When cruise is on, there is a miss fire, & sometimes the motor just cuts out. Other times the motor wont start. During the cranking while trying to start it again, the red security light on the radio blinks. While the red light blinks, it wont start. Once the light stops blinking, it starts.
Can hear the fuel pump start up while this is happening. So I can rule that out.
How much am I looking at to have the CAS changed ?

Sounds more like a security/immobiliser problem. Try pressing the unlock button when the key is in the keyhole and the red blinking light should go out....also check that the metal ring around the keyhole is making contact with the metal knob on the keyhead when the key is inserted (this passes the security code and makes the red light go out...as does pressing the unlock button)
