Default Berlina/Calais/Statesman Roof Inteior light into basic model with standard light

    Hi all,

Picked up one of those lights with individual lights on either side the other day, today cut the loom and stuck it in but the side lights won't switch on, only the big one comes on when the door's open.. any suggestions? Maybe it's just not meant to be; or maybe my Executive is missing something?

    Any ideas/suggestions welcome

    Thanks

the side lights are map lights and you just turn them on manually they dont come on when you open the door etc

thanks littlegeorgy01, that's why I bought them - but the lights don't come on when I flick the switches..

Is the wiring the same for this light as the original light (eg the orange cable and the orange cable with a white stripe) or is it somehow different?

Well if the interior light turns on in the middle then you have power 2 the main unit! so i would grab a multi and check 2 see if the little lights are getting power, if no power to them, then follow there pos lead back to the main source ect and tap into that! if there is power they may have to be individually earthed?

Is it hard to install this? I found a VN exec w/sunroof at a local wreckers and I wanna steal its interior lights. Also, what about the ones over the rear doors? is the wiring for them already up there?

    Thanks heaps!

Andrew426: Mounting looks to use the EXACT same screw holes as the old one making it a breeze (in theory)

here are the pics the positive wire is joined to 2 wires as in pic and the other one is a negative.

these will fit straight up, you can modify the roof lining to give the gllobes clearance from the lining but i havent and have not had an issue with heat or burning yet.

rear wiring isnt there but you could run your own from the centre one fairly easily.

Mine is wired exactly like yours littlegeorgy01; had the original loom wiring with the connector on the end but cut it and wired it up to the existing light wiring.. going to hit it with the multi tomorrow and try to work out why on earth the middle one lights up but not the small ones..

I would have thought 12v wouldn't be going into the light assembly unless activated either through the doors being open or the switch but it looks like they always work regardless.. how on earth does the unit have power to turn on the smaller lights seperately from the big centre light without the big centre light actually being on? I'm seriously confused.. only thing I can think of is the unit itself controls the big light being on or off?

the two lights are earthed via the screw in the picture so just make sure that there is a screw there. and as for the lights working seperate to the other one i think its because the 2 small ones are earthed to the car (via the screw) where as the other one is earthed via the wiring which is activated by the doors.

You amazing person you! That actually makes completely perfect sense.. when I tested the light it was during my lunch break at work, just stripped the four cables and tied them up mid air, never thought of screws acting as earth.. I bet when I go to screw it in tomorrow it will work perfectly.. wife was wondering why I had no interior light when we went for a drive tonight Will post to let all know how I go

    THANKS
