Default Fuel Economy

I have a 1995 VS Exec v6 3.8L and i only get about 300km per tank and to me this seems pretty shit. I'm not a grandma driver but i dont always floor it so im thinking its not me! But then again ive only had my licence for about 1 month and i may be a lead foot.

Anyway i was wondering what everyone was getting in their car...

(Sorry if its been covered before but i browsed through and hadn't seen much on it.)

Have you done a search on this topic ? There are a number of different things that cause bad fuel economy. CAI and a good exhaust system will help to a certain degree.

i was only after other peoples kms / tank wasnt aksing for a fix or what is wrong with mine and to be honest there isnt much on fuel economy for VR/VS... The only thing i have read is the fuel injectors could need repalcing or cleaning but that was not under VR/VS so please help or dont help.

In my 95 VS exec I usually get about 430 km to a tank and thats with driving up the M4 everyday too work and around town. On a long trip on an open highway I can get about 600km's. Keeping in mind that the VS only has a 59 litre tank and I would use about 50 litres before filling up... Then again when I think about it it really ain't that bad.

Infus10n, This might seem silly but maybe your tires might need inflating. What pressure are your tires pumped up too?

My VS Berlina only gets about 400km to a tank... that is with some leadfooting... It really aint that bad for the amount of power im getting. Exhaust, extractors, V8 CAI etc etc... Next I'm going to get a new comp and remap the fuel maps etc, hoping that this will drop my fuel usage a bit.

I have checked my tyres before and they were all good but havent checked them for about 1 month...

My dad did it with me but iwll check again... Its due for its service so might get that done first then see what happens after that.

Mattk, what sort of k's would you be getting without the CAI, 2.5" exhaust and extractors? Do they really make a huge difference? Also how big is your fuel tank?

Default Nope

Long range tank is an option , an option I didnt get on my BT1 , me thinks ..

Ive never been able to get much more than 60Litres into the tank ..

I got 11Ltrs to the 100Ks last time I checked ...

And now ive been putting the boot in ... Whats diff ??? K&N Airfilter , Lukey Headers , and Doctor Bob chip ...

Will fill the tank after work and see how it goes [ how much is left in the tank ] etc

So will post fuel ecconomy for mods in my Sig shortly , but def no long range tank in my car ...

Matt

Here we go ....

Got FE2 susp , 3.08:1 diff , and M30 Trans , these are the only non standard options I got on my car , no mention of NQE [ Long range tank ]

I have a vn commodore, and i get crap fuel economy in my car. Around 350 k's to a tank.
I have to drive the Monash Freeway to & from work everyday, and its stop start the whole way.

Default Yeah

My VL gave lousy ecconomy , but only after installing a 2.5inch exhaust system ..... Everything I did to free flow the exhaust on that car = less fuel ecconomy ....

Main fault could have been the exhaust sensor kept dying , one never lasted for more than a week , so I gave up replacing it ....
