i read a DIY article in street commodores today about changing the rockers on a ecotec from the standard 1.65:1 to 1.9:1. it looks quite simple to do but is it worth doing and will it be a significant gain and is there anything else that needs to be done before/after you do this
bump for help
patience grasshopper!
what else did the article say about doin the mod? during the 1.5hrs waiting for a response, did u have a quick search? V6 mod & development section is a good place to check
Yes its easy if you have a lil knowledge with spanners, and its an awesome mod and a definate bang for your buck!
Hey man
There good to get mate, though you wont get the best benefit out of them with out extractors, exaust and CAI.
BTW go for the YELLA TERRA 1.95's mate....
well ive already got the extractors and exhaust and cai fitted but i wanted to kno if there was anything else i had to do in order for it to be at full effect and running smooth so to speak
u've got all the goodies just add ur rockers and ur set to go
wat sorta rwkw wud i expect from all this
hard really to say exactly but prolly 5-20rwkw with the combo
I've seen it written on other sites that rocker ratios higher than 1.8:1 require upgraded valve springs to prevent valve bounce. Best to ask this question again in the Yella Terra section or search their area of the forum.

is yella terra the only brand for the high lift rockers for commodores?
I'm not really sure what other N/A eco-tec options there are.

there are also MACE and FIT rockers, BUT they are just 're-manufactured' rockers, not a rocker will roller tip as well as roller mount
just an upgraded spring my crow etc, speak to the dealer that you get the rockers from to see what they recommend. The springs are the harder part of doing the rockers because they are fiddly as hell to remove.. well thats what i found anyways
I have the 1.98's from MACE on my car. 1hr to fit and about 3hrs to access and repaint the valve covers!
They do appear identical to the stockers but how are they remanufactured to be different? I didn't compare them closely at the time but do they have more movement in the rocker itself or is the pad or pushrod location modified for more lift? Is it the valve covers themselves that limit the rocker ratio in this instance or just the limit for how the original style rocker can be modified?
cheers
they reweld where the valve rests on the tip, then grind to the required lift.
i have the FIT 1.9s, and love em
Thanks, I thought they looked thicker in that area but the originals were all oily so couldnt compare and had to get on with the job!
It's early days, only driven the car on a few short trips since and nothing overwhelming with power but does feel more torquey, pulls away more smoothly but doesnt appear to sound very different to what you'd expect from a cam change or similar. I still have smaller pulley and larger intake throttle body to fit so hopefully they will compliment each other rather than just expecting one mod to change the whole car.
