I put an ultra bright Red LED in my car and an ultra bright blue LED in my mates VS acclaim, it is an easy swap, you wont need a resistor as the voltage has allread been dropped on that circuit.

You simply pull the dash around it out, the little led has a connector coming off it, just unclip it. The little piece of plastic that the led sits in simply clips out from behind - Sounds a little complicated but when you see it its really easy.

Once you have that out you can take it to a work bench to work on it. The led is pushed in and may have a little bit of glue holding it in. Just takes a little bit of force to push it out. Once the old led is out put the new one in and resolder the wiring to the new led.

The led does have a polarity, which means you have to connect it the right way or it wont work. You wont kill the led, it just wont work. You can make sure its the right way by two methods.

1st - Just put the new one in and try it. If it doesnt work, swap the wires around. If it does work, great.

2nd - Measure the voltage on the led using a multimeter while its in the car working. The multimeter voltage reading will jump to approx 3V. If you get a negative 3V, swap the probes. The red probe of the mutlimeter will be the positive wire. Mark this and solder it to the longer leg on the led.

If you have never soldered before and dont have a multimeter this might sound a little tricky. Just depends how you are with the electrical stuff. Maybe get a friend who knows a little more. Its an easy one though.

When the led is in, if you find its too bright for yourself or passengers in the back seat, you can use a resistor to dim the led down to whatever brightness suits you.

Hey Kopper, I have an ultra bright red LED in my car, you can see it a mile away at night time, I think it was in the high 20,000 milli candles, since it only flashes when the car is off it hasn't bothered me or my passengers yet. They are such an effective little upgrade.

VS Berlina, I know of two common sizes for LEDS they are 3mm and 5mm the standard security LED is a 5mm
