Default Clunking towards the rear

I have been getting a clunk coming from the rear somewhere but it's a bit hard to pick...sometimes it feels like its just behind my seat...
It would do this when I had the Auto and the auto shaft had new uni's...
Manual shaft on (could do with new uni's soon) but it's the exact same noise.
It does it when I take off in 1st and plant it a little and also turning, from a stop start. Also in reverse turning it seems to do it.

Every bush has been replaced apart from the rear sway bar, mounts on diff, pin bushes.
They look a little worn. I have been meaning to to replace them.
Would this be the cause? I can't see it being a worn diff...
Does the rear sway bar stop the diff from moving up and down for the tail shaft etc?

Cheers

It has IRS yes ?
Could the noise actually be coming from the front ? I have a noise like that and its one of the front bushes. I guess any worn bush can make that noise.
Sway bar is not actually connected to the diff from memory, but if its loose could still be clunking. Turning would put a bit of load on the bar.

had a look at the auto/gearbox mount recently?

I think you will find that the shocks/springs stop the diff from smacking your floorpan, that and the rubber bump stops (My bump stops look like they have never made contact with the diff)

mmm I cut those bumpstops above the rear to give the shocks more travel and made a huge difference but it's not from that.
Thinking something along the lines of the tailshaft moving around.
I get no vibration driving so don't really think it's the center bearing, it is the exact same noise with the other center bearing...

So could it be the rear sway/stabilizer bar making the diff move or is it my diff that is a fault?
But I really can't see it being the diff because noise is only when turning and accelerating from a stand still. A quick clunk then it doesn't do it anymore.
Could it be a coincidence that both center bearings were worn the same amount and causing the exact same noise?

It could be the bolts being loose that connect the Tail shaft and Diff flanges. If it is dont just tighten the bolts, fit 2 new flanges because its most likely that the bolt holes will become elongated which makes it dangerous ofcourse.

Cheers Josh but nar I made sure they were tight and not sloppy.
It was doing it before this other tail shaft, and like I said it's the exact same noise.

mmm so does anyone know the symptoms of worn a rear worn sway bar?

sway bars don't actually wear , but the bushes / links do. They should be easy to replace on the live axle, and pretty sheap. The lower trailing arm bushes are always a likely suspect in the rear end as well.

Is this clunk happening when going over bumps? Ive heard stories and seen the effects of too low commodores that have the rear uni where the tailshaft meets the diff smacking and actually wearing a hole in the floor pan.

Not saying you car is too low at all but with the smaller bump stops it could be one idea. More than likely not but it has happened.
