Pedders 28 point safety check, found a lot
Hey guys.
Got one of those $14 28 point suspension and steering safety checks done on the ute today.
It turns out thank god i did this because there is a ****load of stuff wrong with the car. The most important being that my tailshaft and diff flanges have had it and the bolts are just sitting in the holes, the tailshaft could break contact with the diff at any minute... am i better off getting a mechanic to fix this or can i make it a simple and cheap DIY job?
One other thing in the report that i didnt understand was the bump stops boots are torn, can someone explain this to me?
Cheers for the help

No offense but dont trust Pedders..... They make good parts, but their service and their "no bull" campaign is the biggest load of "bull" ive ever seen.
Not saying its not stuffed, but Id be checking it yourself, and get a mechanic you can trust to check it before handing over any cash.

Yeah mate i see your point, better off going to an independent to look at it, i know for sure that is the problem coz when i got the car home i jacked it up and the bolts are sheared completely and the tailshaft is just hanging on through the factory chipped lock. Im taking it to my mechanic tommorow to get the driveshaft problem sorted out. But there is also a hell of a lot of things wrong with the suspension so i have to sort that out aswell. Thanks for the advice Tom

I'll second the remarks from Tom_1569 - their method is to report anything that is showing any signs of wear as being "worn out".......there is a subtle difference.

Yeah true true, thats the problem with these big companys, they milk everything. Ill get my independent to check out the driveshaft flanges e.t.c and if worse comes to worse ill buy monroe shocks and new struts in a kit and mi old man and I will fit em lol.

Waste of $14. Wouldn't matter if those parts were brand new mate, they probably still would have said the same thing.
Get it checked none the less, but don't get Pedders to fix it.

for $14... get them to check and make a list off all the suspect parts...
then take it elsewhere to get it done if you like? (Thats what i did, and save BUCKETLOADS)
agreed, their "worn out" is really "showing signs" but not necessarily in need of changing...
but if for $14, you get a full comprehensive list of things that you can say "are suss"...
you know exactly what to look for when you wanna check under the car, it saves you crawling bout under your care with an inspection light and mirror looking at EVERYTHING!

If your shocks and struts are original they will certainly be stuffed by now. If your handling is sloppy and there are any rattles or bangs from the suspension it would be worth replacing the struts and bushes and boots at the same time yourself if you can. You would be able to see if the boot is damaged or not just by looking through the front wheel arch inside the spring. I use pedders sports rider shocks but i fit them myself...

All good peeps, i went to midas instead coz i know the owner and he hoisted the car and told me the essentials. He said the boys at pedders were milking it. All in all Im paying $1,470 For a new pinion flange in the diff, new uni joints and bolts, 2 new rocker cover gaskets and he's gonna degrease it all aswell, New radius bushes, New front struts and rear shocks and a few other little things i cant remember at the moment lol. But yeah id suggest to anyone, get the check done at pedders to have a starting point then go somewhere else and see what they say.
