Default roof lining backing sagging :(

alrighty i have decided to fix the roof lining (gonna get pros to reline the fabric (88 bucks) BUT the compressed cardboard (if it is cardboard) backing has also sagged..can this be fixed?

i have been thinking of taking it out and laying it on flat ground with something heavy on it for a few days then when i put it back upo use some heavy duty Velcro where the original Velcro is, that failed (hence why its sagging)

what do u guys think?

Hmm the 89 green sedan has the saggy cardboard over the back where the velcro has failed to hold on. I glued the originals back into place but would not hold the shape (sagged there and then)

So I'd say rip it out gently and get it flat first. - maybe some dampness to help it flatten out. If I take the linning out again I will most definatly flatten it first.

The Holdens are not alone - My dads' 83 Sigma had the linning replaced under warranty as it did the same thing and fell down.

The cardboard and lining was sagging in my VS, so i took it all out and washed the fabric (get all the orange **** off) scrubbed the cardboard and used 2 cans of spray adhesive
Got some foam and cut it to shape, stuck the foam to the cardboard, and the fabric to the foam.
Used 6 velcro strips to hold the cardboard in shape, lets wait for summer to see how it holds =D
Cost me 15 bucks all up...

I called a specialist up once as I was having the same problem and asked what his method was. He simply wet the cardboard a bit and used some weights to bend it into shape. Once the water evaporated the shape remains. Mine still isnt fixed. I tried a full length of velcro, didnt work - then tried some of the much stronger plastic velcro - held for a while but ended up ripping a layer of the cardboard off to fall back into shape. Im really considering pulling it down and using some glue as jas98 did. Just use a bit of timber to hold it in place for a few days while it sets. Sounds dodgy but for such a simple problem it can really get on your nerves.

lol yeh it has gotten on my nerves aswell ...like the other day i was looking at it and the cardboard was still the right shape etc...but today i was also looking at it and not only did it sag more (the fabric) the bloddly cardboard also has lol (but it has gotten hoter here the last few days) i have herd of the water trick...might give it a go.....cant do anymore harm now can i

the glueing trick worked a treat but when teh fabric droped (as it was still alright when i glued it) it was fun getting off but i got it off then teh cardboar sagged again cause i didnt glue it ....grr lol

cheers

If I pull the lining out of the 89 sedan I'll try the water on the cardboard too.

Logic sayes that should fix it.
