VS Stato V8 questions..
took a stato for a test drive and planted my foot down was doing 30
and it just didnt really go anywhere at all, it didnt really move at all.
my vn would be about twice as fast then the stato i took for a spin..
are they really that slow or is the engine worn out??
its only got 125,xxx kays on the engine and gearbox wasnt slipping or anything.
also while im askin bout stato's
when turning on a round about you hear the powersteering whining, thats the powersteering pump either lack of fluids or on its way out correct?
and the steering wheel was abit 'loose' so to say when driving straight you sorta gotta move it left and right to keep it straight (more then the normal movement)
guessing this goes together with the powersteering on its way out?

ive driven a few vr-vs statesmans, there about as quick as a healthy vn v6 with a sports exhaust. i had a race against a vn v6 when driving a dead stock grandpa spec one, and the vn had at least a sports exhaust and it was dead even.
what you also have to realize if youve never driven a bigger car before is that it feels slower than what it actually is, unless the v8 had something wrong i highly doubt there would be much difference between a vn v6 and a vs v8 whether its auto or manual.
Youll also see that the v6 is revvier, and the v8 is lazyier. But at the same time the v8 doesnt have to rev as much to be doing the same speed as a v6 so it seems your going no where.

Noise is either worn pump, low fluid, slipping belt, worn steering rack?
My VS Caprice has 140k on it, slight slop in the steering. I hadn't noticed as it obviously comes on so gradually but when i had to take it over the pits, both inspectors commented on it (but registered the car). On the way home i noticed the 'slop' as i was looking for it, went "oh yeah, it does a tiny bit" and immediately forgot about it I would be surprised if your VN doesn't have the same slight looseness and you have unconsciously adjusted as I had.
The VS Statesman/Caprice is heavier than the VN Commodore, with the 5.0 is 165kW vs the V6 at 125kW ish? I agree with vnv8 driver, should be about neck and neck all things considered. I also agree re perception, i.e. the VN may seem quicker in isolation due to revvier engine, more noise compared to the Statesman V8 experience etc
If its as slow as you say, I'd be concerned. My 185kW Caprice is hardly a rocket, but it does give you a healthy shove backwards when you floor it.

also is there a way you can check if its legit kays and not wound back/another cluster?
the cluster says 125,xxx on it and the log books add up to it so it seems legit
but having not much balls just concerns us thats all..
the drivers seat seems to be sat on (as in it seems more softer thinking it may have more kays saying 200,xxx because the seat is more soft and shaped if that makes sense?
so is there any other ways to see if the kays are legit?

i bought my stato with 135xxx KMs on it. FULL sevice history. only thing that has gone, was my Fuel Pump (abt 145 xxxkms)
Mine has a slight steering issue (noise wise) but not when going around a round about. only when i reverse park onto my nature strip.
u say no power at all... i find that VERY weird. ive drivin 2 stato's now, and have all gone good when planted the foot.
Seats are no issue if it gots 40 xxx kms or 400 xxx. my rear seats had hardly ever been sat in, and my fronts are like new, except one small tear in driver seat.
How much they askn for the stato?
for 125 xxx kms, id say the price would be around 8k to 10k.

yeh well im pretty keen on this stato just hopping to god nothing wrong with it..
i also forgot to say the foglight/drivers lights have been pinched so theres a big gap inthe bumper but the indicators are still there..
also the clock on the dash is out and the guy said it costs $65 to re-calibrate it??
really need advice as this will be my first 5litre and stato..
so dont really want to buy the wrong car and find out problems..
anything you recommend me to look at HSVPUNK?
as you have a stato and might know a thing or too about them

if it has stock tyres and doesnt spin them up planting it from 20km/h dont get it, theres something wrong!
when you say plant it at 30/ do you mean you slowed down then planted it?? or took off at minimal throttle then planted it??? could be a kickback issue....

could be a number of things, coil, leads, etc... if it seems in real good nick and you like it buy it and spend some cash. It can only get better from there.

remember there not quick to start off with stock. a chip, exhaust, cai, service(plugs cap/button/leads/filters) throttle body clean and it should be good.
Might just not be maintaned like it should, not saying its not a good buy just maybe holding it back form its potential. if you flatten it off the mark-20km/h it should light up (there not lsd most of the time so better spin them up)
