I need new front shocks, which are best?
G'day,
My front shocks are getting pretty tired, pretty bouncy, and lately have been making alot of abnormal noises.
Ive got 19s and its pretty low at the front, only about 10-15mm clearance of tyre. So thats another reason to get a tighter setup in the front.
I can get monroe shocks from a mate at holden, they are excess stock from HSV. I cant remember his price but i think it was around 80 per side.
Other option i know of is the Ultima Shocks of eBay. Holden Commodore VR-VZ Ultima Shocks Absorbers Front for $200.
Is there any other decent pairs for around $200? I'll need the top plate and the bearing or whatever it is (i really have no idea about the top end of them) because when i go for wheel alignments, they keep saying my steering pulls to the last way the wheels were turned (which is true) And they tell me to replace the bearings in the top plate (or something along the lines)
Appreciate any help.
CHeers.
Dan.

Like everything in life you get what you pay for. KYB are a good budget alternative that are a cut above the rabble however they are somewhat more expensive. My preference is Bilstein or secondly koni however they are way over your budget.

Hey Dan, I've got a similar situation to you. My first VS I put Monroe Sensatrac shocks all round and they were fantastic. Installed at 160,000kms and sold the car at 384,000kms and they were still going strong. You can sometimes find them on ebay online stores. My current VS shocks are rooted and undecided what I should get. Monroe have a new sports shock out now that is designed in conjunction with King springs. Might be worth considering if I had some money.

I found them here
They match the part numbers on the KYB Site, and they are the Excel-G Twin Tube Gas Shocks.
Having my car lowered in the front, do i need to have shortened shocks? The rears installed now are shortened ones.

No, was standard. But if you look up the monroe website it has different part numbers for lowered and standard sensatrac struts.

I would've expected better from an EBay seller... our run of the mill price is $125 each.
Also that's the not part numbers for KYB shortened fronts either... The KYB shortened fronts to suit are a couple of bucks more each from memory.
