Is it Auto gearbox? Maybe your gearbox is on its last legs..........
Get the car up on ramps and check the entire driveline for wear/looseness....it could be a worn centre bearing, worn uni's either on propshaft or halfshafts (presume you're IRS). Look for witness marks where the clunk has left a mark. Rear engine mount should have no movement. Then you move onto the IRS!
ok mate sweet no dramas ive got from 1 mechanic which thinks my diff is the problem but also seems unsure about the problem but im also looking into it more cheers guys thanks
Is the car fitted with IRS and if so check that your diff cradle hasn't cracked which is a common VR/VS IRS problem.

Do a search on here regarding IRS cradle cracking, has been covered before.
Cracking was in a RTA inspection notice for VR/VS IRS commodores for rego inspections.
