Hey all, wonderin if someone can help me.

Recently I've noticed a deep grinding noise when I turn the ignition on. Sort of a short 'brrrrg..' then the usual starter motor sound before ignition. Any ideas??? Cheers.

I can try and get it on video if that would help, thanks.

John.

Oh, it's a VR, 304 V8, 4spd auto.

Edit: went out to film it, and it didn't happen. Still would like ideas because I doubt it's fixed itself.

It could be the starter motor solenoid starting to fail with burnt contacts or a loose hot cable connection to the starter. If it happens before the key goes to "start" it could be the fuel pump. These are just guesses as I'm not real familiar with the bent 8.
