    Question VS Heater Tap Hoses

Hi,please excuse this post, but im not very mechanically minded.
Ive just replaced the Heater tap in my VS,and i think i may have reconnected the hoses around the wrong way.The hose that comes from the top left side of the block, does that connect to the top or bottom connection of the heater tap?
    Sorry about this,Thanks

hey guys, after 3 hours online trying to figure out what i blew up last night on the VS i have arrive at the conclusion that its the water tap - sorry im still lerning about cars/mechanics 2, heres the story, got home from work last nite and the flatmates had some mates arround, wanting to show off the power of my pride and joy i did the obligatory burnout, once the driveway was sufficantly smokey and black i rolled forward into the garage, noticed steam coming out of the engine bay, promptly pood in pants then tryd to figure out what id done, found out it was the water tap (ive only just found out what its called) the top hose connection just plain broke off ( were the hose from the water pump connects to the heater tap)

    HERES THE IMPORTANT QUESTION!!

seeing as the heater tap has broken is there any other damage that could have been done to the engine when it broke or as a resault of it breaking?

only if you let overheat and kept it running.
No it will be ok by what you have written.
When you replace it take sure you bleed the system and get all the air out.
I run my car for a couple of days with the heater fully open and bleed it when I get to work. On day 3 no more air comes out all good.

there should be no other damage and to change it i simply remove all the hoses, unbolt it and attach the new hoses then bleed the system

what do i do about the little metal thing on it? sorry i dot know what its called

Thats the vacuum servo that turns the tap on/off. Once you remove the tap you'll see how it attaches to the new one. The tap I bought from Holden had vacuum servo included with the tap but I think they also are available without the servo. Take a digital pix of it before you pull it off then you can't go wrong.

Once a week I open the valve all the way open just to keep it freed up.
They can sieze up over time.
