VS Statesman 5.0

Hi guys, long time reader, first time poster.

I am having problems with my 95 VS Stato.



The bloody thing wont start.


It winds over when keyed, but wont start. It sometimes tries to start, but just no quite able to. I have checked fuel supply, ignition, so far, no joy. I did manage to get it started today, let it sit and idle for roughly 20 minutes, just as I was about to turn it off, I sunk my boot into it and it died, and I wasnt able to re start it.

I retrieved a code 31, which is anti theft signal missing. I reset the computer and the code doesnt seem to have re appered, but still wont start.

By doing searches on here I have found that MAYBE the keyfob is no good. I have checked the metal strip pickup on the key barrell, all good.


I also retrieved code 12, which is normal.


I am baffled. Any ideas?

after a process of elimination, it was found that the coil was to blame.





I had a mobile locksmith come out and programme me a new key, no joy, a mobile mechanic replace ignition module, no joy, checked codes, no joy, leads, plugs, no joy. There is on a few coils available in SEQLD at the moment due to a shortage in supply (which proved to be difficult to obtain)

Changing the coil on these is a bastard of a job.
