Hey Guys,
I'm just posting this up cause I really don't want to waste my money going to a mechanic who will likely tell me the same thing, or not what I want anyhow.
Anyway, as you can tell I drive a '96 VS Calais V6 Auto. and i was wondering if anyone else has same problem as me.. when i start her cold and then when i rev her a lil she hesitates for about a second or close to it, before she chimes up. was wondering if thats due to spark plugs not firing properly or any ideas??
Also I was wondering if anyone has had any trouble with this car and doing 'stand still' burnouts.... its not what i bought the car for, but i still wouldnt mind it doing it when i want to.. i know its got LSD so it makes it harder, but still, a V6 should be able to overcome the tyre->road friction and also a slight application of the breaks... right?
Well, if anyone has any ideas i'd be plad to hear it aye.... thankz heaps.
Could be many things - have you put new plugs and leads on it?
Timming is fixed in the VS V6 so that wont "slip".
Maybe it's the coils, or Throttle Position Sensor or the throttle body sticking.

for the cold start idle try cleaning your throttle.
as for the burnout your car has irs and lsd which would make it a little hard for it. if it was a solid diff car wouldnt be a prob at all.
yeah mine does this for many the first 60 seconds it has been running basically i back out my driveway and accelerate forward on the road it hesitates, down end of street 500m away it does it then it wont do it again untill the next day. This problem happened when I put new injectors in it runs alot smoother and starts better more power ect but its a weird problem doesnt really effect me for a long time so I dont worry too much about it
Yeah it generally only happens when cold, after she heats up it tends to become more responsive, thanks. I'll have to have a look into cleaning the throttle. Thanks.
Sorry to sound like such a n00b at the moment, but....
What does IRS stand for? and what does it do for the car
*if the name isn't self explanatory*
Sorry.
It's hard to diagnose via text only but I was thinking dirty injectors => poor spray pattern and poor fuel evaporation, noticeable until sufficient heat is around to help. rcnugget's experience may be something similar.
It's harder to fire a cold air;fuel mixture so I wouldn't rule out the suggestion of spark plugs +/or leads though. When were they last replaced? I think the recommended service interval is replace every 40 000km for the 'plugs.
IRS = Independent Rear Suspension. Each rear wheel can move separately in response to road bumps and dips. The alternative system is where both wheels are connected on a single axle = live axle or beam axle.
Drive a live axle Commodore hard around a corner with a bump in it, especially on the inside, and you will see why IRS is better - the movement of the wheel that hits the bump is transferred by the solid axle to the other wheel, both are now disturbed and the rear of the car will slide or skip.
Thanks a lot for the definition on the IRS for me cheap6, makes a mot more sense to me, and also with your diagnosis on the cold problem. Makes sense to me, I will have to have a look through all my services see when it was last done, until then, thanks once again.
on a cold start it will run rich until its up to operating temp which will also cause it to hesitate
