    Default Extractors hitting the floor

I popped on my new Pacemaker extractors yesterday and the car runs fantastic. Only one issue though, they r sitting pretty close to the underbody of the car. As a result if I accelerate hard, or reverse up an incline they hit the floor due to the torque moving the engine (also my mounts are brand new).

Has this happened to anyone before? Is it fixable? Would I b best to take it to an exhaust shop?

    Any advice is appreciated. Thanks

sounds like a case of bend the pipes down, or bend the floor up (wink)
    won't be easy at home.

haha, yeah I was thinkin I probs should take it to an exhaust shop so they could bend them down a bit, it probably wont be too hard for them up on the hoist.

yeah they r the right extractors, i checked part number. I got them second hand, but they r still in very good condition. they may have been adjusted a little for the previous car, but it didnt look like they had been modified in anyway

I wouldn't bend them at home, you might crease them, reducing flow and causing that spot to wear early.

an exhaust shop will probably measure everything, remove them, heat them with an oxy and gently coerce them into shape, if you ahve the tools to do that, then i'd love to see some pics as I had a few issues a while back that took allot of buggering around to fix.

My g/f dad is an engineer and one of my best mates is one as well, so that helped :P

Yeah I dont really have the tools to do it at home unfortunately. I'll duck past the exhaust shop on my way to work tommorrow and see what they can do for me. The extractors are also hitting my bell housing on each side, so I'll see what they think about that too. Cheers

its that bloody steering system in the way though yeah?

there isn't allot of room on the drivers side for the extractors to fit through

What you have described is very likely in VS's because the the chassis rail crosses diagonally across the underneath of the car making the fitting of large exhausts a real problem.
But the banging on the floor could also be that the centre bearing in your tailshaft has broken, just another angle to look at.
When I fitted my extractors they rested on the steering rack but after I fitted new engine mounts everything was fine as before the engine was sitting on collapsed mounts which were also allowing the engine to twist a lot more also.

I went down to the exhaust shop today and they put it up on the hoist to have a look. As they are second hand items, the right hand collector cone has a crease in it as if it may have scraped the ground when installed in the previous car. The only thing we could think of is maybe this has bent them up a little, hence why they are so close. He tried heating it up the oxy and bending the pipe but it was too hard. Instead I am going to get them to cut the flanges off, weld on some more pipe and have the pipes slide over each other and clamp it (I dont know what that kind of join is called!). That way once the flanges are gone I will have plenty of clearance!
