    G'Day Ron,
I had the same problem and replaced the switch (under the T bar cover) - it cost $46 from GMH. I pulled the old one apart and really all I could see wrong was burnt contacts which possibly could be cleaned up....however to pull the switch apart means some serious drilling of the switch and I'd be worried that reassembly would make the switch dodgy. The switch also acts as the inhibitor switch so if it stuffs up you may have difficulty starting.
You can double check by shorting the wires at the switch to see if the reverse lights come on or (less serious) try moving the T bar slowly thru the reverse position and have someone check the reverse lights (ign on)
    Good Luck.

It's easy Ron, after you pull the plastic cover up you'll see the switch at the front of the exposed selector - its attached by 2 or 3 philip head screws but you don't really need to remove it to check - just bridge the light green and pink wires - either at the switch or at the connector. An easy way to bridge them is to simply push a pin thru each wire and touch the pins together....try not to allow the pins to touch earth but if that happened the worst disaster would be a blown fuse. There are instructions on pulling the cover from the T bar in the "how to" section but basically you remove the ashtray, stick your fingers in and pull it up and slightly forward (I think .....check!)

Thanks Hako, it was really easy to pull it out..... i took it apart & noticed that the copper contacts were not all sitting up high enough to make good contact with the other side, so i just lifted then up gently so they would be all equal in height then put it together agian and reinstalled it, it worked like a dream, no problem what so ever, saved a few bucks anyway.

    thanks again for your help

My car has the same problem, the stick is pretty loose between the gears and my reverse lights only work if the stick is right in the middle because it moves around. I'm gonna have a look at it now.
