is this where people have putting thgeir subs in their utes ive searched but never found any pix, so if this is where they go pleaes tell me, do i remove those 2 round things high liughted in red for more bass inside?
thanx
fuzz
I wouldnt put them in the tray..
Most people I know who have utes buy custom made boxes to fit between the cab and the seat. Its gotta be a thin as box. Or they dont use subs but use 2 or more 6x9's in boxes behind the seats. Decent 6x9's will give enough bass without the use of subs.
you can get special subs made to fit in small places like utes, but no dont put them in the tray, put them in the cabin behind the seats
Its an awesome idea and i cant wait to do it to mine. Heres some helpful links

We made one for a VY ute, goes under the fuel tank hatch on the oppsite side of the tailshaft tunnel to the tank. Sealed it up and made a port to go through into the cab. Sounded very good. I've seen a similar item for sale at my local autobarn.
here's an option. i nicked this pic off an old mate. this pic and others of his ute was featured in Aussie Brutes mag over a year ago. twin turbo, intercooled v8 VU ute.

whatever you do dont cut the back wall of the ute (where those 2 discs are. The walls are structural, not only will it be dangerous but it will void ur RWC and insurance
yeah thats where they go mate you can fit a p3 12inch in therewith a box made right
ive been making heaps for guys with vu to vz utes im sure the vs isnt to much different give me a bell if you need a hand with making it
OH DEAR DID I OFFEND YOU?.................................. OH WELL I DONT GIVE A FLYING F...
Hey guys just curious do you think it would be better to try and squeeze in a 12inch sub or just stick with a 10inch and also anyone got any pictures of their custom sub install in this space? I am thinking of totally sealing the 10 or 12inch sub in a MDF box and porting it to the cabin so the sub can still breathe and thump into the cabin.
Anyways heres mine that i explored the other day.
Any info would be great
Thanks
Matt
how would you port to the cabin? as classifi3d calais wrote earlier, kiss your RWC goodbye if you cut into the rear wall.
i'm just gonna look at 2 6x9's or 7x10's behind the ass of the seats to accompany the amp and 6 inch speakers in the doors. i honestly cant see why people want to fk with their cars so senselessly.
mate i have got the sub next to the fuel tank. its the best thing i could have done audio wise, fits a 12 no worries and ports in through a the holes you have pointed out, system is good for about 130db+ and im very happy with the audio quaility.
only other thing i would do is dynamat around that area.
btw this thread should be in car audio with the other threads on this same issue
think he was refering to those who cut 12" holes into the rear wall
ah yes, soz my bad.
You can actually buy flat subbies...made for utes and small places...not sure how much it would cost...You could just whack it behind the seat that way...
And 'Man' how are your old mates ears? He probably has shares with Panadol. lol
yeah fair call. he says he since got rid of the ute and it now resides in perth. said the twin turbo was more of a concern, some scary shіt. subs could be controlled.
hence why the tray option is the best option the sub cant go anywhere it would just get crushed
Gustov you have any troubles with water getting in there or dust etc? I opened mine the other day to investigate what im going to do for my sub and found a lot of dust/dirt that had come in from the drain holes at the bottom due to some country driving i presume. Wouldn't water/dirt/dust get in there and affect your sub that isn't really sealed? as well as leaks from the tray top itself?
I am going to probably use a 10inch sub fully enclosed and water/dust/dirt proof and port it to the cabin so nothing can disturb it either using one port hole or both.
Matt
na mate no problems in a year so far and i live on a farm on a dirt road, the guys i bought the box off ensured it would all be safe and wouldnt do anything. Thats also with washing the tray out weekly from the amount of dust out my way. Although being skeptical i was planning on sealing the area off and sound deadening it as it can rattle a bit which you can hear outside the ute.
If I was you just to be on the safe side especially if its going to be a mdf box cause water will stuff it, just seal off the area, wouldnt take much effort for the peace of mind.
