hey guys
need help
my car (vr v6) has devolped a surging problem when in idle,
i start the car and its ok for a second then it well start surging down to about 500 revs then up to 1250 then bak to 500 and so on.
when it gets to the 500 revs it almost stalls, light go dime, car starts to shake.
when i drive it, it doesnt surge but when i coast some times it will stall on me.
the stalling is becoming more regular now
i took it down to the mech and he said its the injectors that need cleaning.
can anybody help me with this?
id appricate it as its my first car and this is very disappointing for me
thanx heaps
Chuck a bottle of injector cleaner next fill at the servo - cant hurt.
The "TPS" or throttle position sensor may be the problem. You can try cleaning it or just get a newie.

thanx for ur reply man
he said he took the thottle body out and cleaned it,
and it was alright for a while
could that be the problem then?
injectors could be the issue, but not the only possibility. if the idle air controller (IAC) is gummed up it'll idle like a pig, i'd suggest taking the whole throttle body off and cleaning it. it's not hard, even for a rookie like yourself. just take your time

ahh ok then
then thats what im doin next weekend haha
thanx man
could also be a leak in the plenum camber or the inlet manifold, a vacume leak too, have you done an error code check?
be very carefull playing with the TPS mate. Ive only ever played with mine twice, and it cost me 2 new TPS's, $75 each. also tps faults usually throw a fault code like 22. Check the codes like dannyboy said, and clean the IAC and throttle body, but stay away from the TPS imo. Could it be fuel pump , blocked filter, pressure reg ?
thanx heaps guys
i did do a error code check and its was all good
i have checked vacuum hose. no leak.
tomm09- well its funny u say that coz it was fine, then i would drive 5 minutes down the road, pull up and put into park and it would start doing it, but it wouldnt do it all the time. but now it is quite regulary and now is stalling a bit too
could be a leak in the fuel line too. Mine surged a bit at idle once and i found a loose hose on the fuel rail.
THERES SO MANY POSSIBLITIES DAMIT!
thanx guys for the replys
is there anyway i could narrow down the possiblities without spending a **** load of money?
thats where your mechanical skills come in bud.
When you say you checked the vacuum hose, i think you missed the point. There are about 20 places where you could have vacuum leaks on your intake. Check everything that is connected to your intake manifold like hoses, gaskets, sensors , and all the ports where your manifold bolts to the head, plus the big air hose and the throttle body.
Have you got a workshop manual ? a haynes or gregory's could help. Check the air hose to your fuel pressure regulator is clear and does not have petrol in it.
Check the codes again! Check the fuel pressure regulator - pull the vacuum hose off it and see if there is fuel in the hose.
yeah well i checked all the hoses coming off the vacuum hose.
nah i need to get that workshop manual which after u guys are tellin me to do this stuff i will be getting on the weekend haha
again thanx heap this is great stuff
