Default Why cant i get it LOW!!! (VS clubby)

ok, so im runnin a VS clubby with fresh 20'inch chrome and brand new coilovers in the front. this is all good and well.

my problem lies in the back end. i have the lowest springs on the market, BMW 6series lowered (these are the lowest springs available, lower than all kings springs etc) or something like that and monroe GT shocks and it just wont sit low.

it sits at the top of the 20 inch tyre and it should be tucking the rim by now!!

could something be holding it up or do i need to get the spring even more compressed?

please.. somebody save me any more headaches and money!! haha

it could prob be that ur on bump stops, jack the car up take out the bump stops, cut them completely off and then that will prob help with ur height issue, if its still sitting high, go and get them compresses a bit more and that may help...but my bet is with bump stops, they are useless anyway lol
    hope ive helpd

Jack her up, remove the springs, and let it back down gently with the jack. See if anything is doing silly things when you begin to lower PAST the point it would sit at with your BMW springs

Could be the new shockies that near wearing in. Pop the boot stand on the back and push down and up a few times and see if it makes any difference.

firstly, its not sittin anywhere near the bumpstops, probably like, the bumpstops are prob like 1.5-2 inches apart still!!! and i got told with these springs it should sit close to them!!!!

MORTON, so you mean drop it down slow with the springs out all together? where should i be looking mate? any ideas? is it possible that something is holdin it up? these springs are meant to put it on its A#$!!

Zuicider you talking about the front? Or rear? the rear are completely different...they sit above the diff. Or maybe your talking spring insulators for the rear...

Yea, remove the springs, and lower the car carefully, below where its sitting now. u'll soon find out with its ur shocks or something else weird goin on.

you can always remove the bottom bolt on your shocks so its only the springs holding the weight of your car, and again, lower carfully, see where it sits..

what shocks you have under the car? by the sounds of it, u'll need shortened shocks, and i mean shorter than your standard shortened shocks.

Your car is sitting 1.5-2 inches from the bumpstops? That's pretty low in my book

I don't think you have any issues. Tucking rim is hard work with VS wheel arches. If you want to ride any lower than that, why not remove the springs altogether, find the height your shocks would sit at when on bumpstops, and weld them solid?

mine was sitting on the bumpstops so i cut 3/4 of them off, also got thinner spring seat rubbers. mines live axel though.

maybe your shocks arent short enough? leave them in and drive around for a couple of days and see if it settles. also show us some pics.

    Is it IRS?

if so you may need to turn the springs around. Theres a high and low part on the ends of the springs and they might not be sitting snug

new shocks and springs will make the car sit high for a week or 2, usually take 2 weeks for springs to fully sage and about the same for shock absorbers.

excellent suggestion it is the only way you will find out why it will not lower anymore

Shocks will not bottom out before the bumpstops touch, but they will prevent the car from dropping as much as it should on an IRS. Don't ask me why, it just happens. Jack the car up a bit, undo the bottom shock bolt and let the car back down, you will find it will drop further. New shocks always lift the arse of an IRS rear end. Fitting shortened shocks may work but I don't think they will.

I put new springs in my IRS commy last weekend, I didn't notice any high/low sides to the spring. Is there neway to tell if I put them in the correct way?

One end of the spring has thicker coils, these go down.

sorry to jack your thread mate, not really worth startin a new one thats nearly the same though.

i've been having issues with my front end, i just got new kyb short stroke shocks with ultra low king springs, and it sits about half an inch above the 19 inch tyre. Had superlows with standard shocks and they seem to be exactly the same height as the ultra lows w/ short shocks.

I've seen other vr/vs's pretty low in the front, i usto have my standard springs cut (with standard shocks) and it was just tucking tyre at the front which was good.
Does anyone know how to have this same sort of setup with un-cut springs?
I had a play around with an ultra spring today, just to see, i cut about 3/4 of a coil off it, (the first half doesnt really do anything cause it spring goes flat at the top an bottom) but now its too short and doesnt reach/put any pressure at all on the bearing/rubber strut top an the bearings just fall out.
I am yet to try the standard and the modified ultra spring on the standard shock, maybe the seat is positioned a bit lower. Would be great to work something proper out here, i dont want cut springs at all.

My mate has a vs v8 ute, with pedders springs and shocks, dont know how he's done it, but he'd honestly be tuckin a good half inch under his guards, no bullshit. This is why i am so determined to work out what i can do.

    Thanks for any advice.
    Cheers

Ha, yeah, the back in tuckin nearly half the tyre, and the fronts got about 2cm tyre to guard clearance... looks like its about to take off.
