Hey all.
I have a VR series 1 Executive and yesterday I went to start it to take it for a drive (selling soon I've just upgraded it doesnt get out much recently). I was able to unlock the door with both the single button key and the key directly itself, however the ignition feels locked and wont turn at all.
Its the same with the spare key. I have been told by my mechanic easy enough to change, however I have no way of getting the car to him for a new ignition to be installed. I dont really want to pay the 140$ tow charge from my place to his shop is there anyway to start the car??
Any help really appreciated!
is it possible, and dnt assume im newbie lol but could it be your steering wheel has locked? humour me, go back to the car, give the wheel a bit of a twist and turn to each of the sides while playing the key around in the ignition and see if it gives for you![]()
Steering wheel spins freely and ignition still feels 'locked'.
Can you turn the key to the on postion?
Use this tutorial I`ve writen first before attempting the info below.
How to remove a stuck ignition barrel VN-VS
There is a way you can turn the ignition on though you have to make sure the steering lock is disingaged.
Ok here it is, take of the bottom shroud around the steering wheel (plastic)
on the left of the wheel you will notice that at the back of the ignition barrel is the electrical connector its a round black plastic thing with all the wires coming out of it unclip it from the barrel note* its been a while and there might be a small screw to help attach it to the barrel* with it disconnected
get your key and a flat blade screwdriver use the nub on your key to rub on the immobliser ring (the two pop outs around the key hole) this will disable the immoblisier now take the screw driver to turn the groove in the electrical connector bang you have pots firing, I can`t strees enough that you make sure the steering lock is and stays DISENGAGED for your safety.
