hey,
yesterday i was taking the door stripps off and while doing so had the stereo on my ute turned on, so the battery didnt die i started it, and it sounded real ****, like it was strugling to stay on. but the fuel guage was on E and the fuel light was on so i thought nothing of it,
today i filled it up from a jery can and tried to start it and it started but sounded **** again and quickly stalled, the fuel light is off and the guage has gone up but now the oil light and transmition light is on, and it wont start at all, and wont even turn over unless its hooked up to a battery pack or jumper leads.. wtf??

i would be checking your error codes, i believe its in the how-to section. check for codes, make sure its nothing serious, the i would clear the codes, and start again.
maybe its has a little air in the fuel system, i would start her, n keep her on 2k rpm for 10secs or so, should clear up fairly quickly
Its 6,
i just tried diagnostic and it just gives 12..
checked the fuel filter and spark and there both good

you mentioned she runs for a bit then stalls, how long does it run for? can you start her and get her to run with a lil bit of throttle?
nuh at first it was running for a 1 or 2 seconds but now it wont run at all

if it was the CAS it would show a code, how many times did the code 12 flash for?
ok, remove ur cd player, and try starting the car.. and post back, i dont think its a co-incidence, so unplug it, and give her a crack
The battery still may not have enough charge to turn over the engine let alone run the car, as the alternator is putting so much effort into charging a dud battery... What is the battery voltage when you try and turn it over without the jumper leads?
We had the same issue with a forklift at work, the battery was dead flat, we jump started it, and then ran it, but even after a minute or so of being on the gas when we left it to idle it stalled again and wouldn't turn over.
The other thing is that maybe the engine is now flooded, and yes it does happen on an EFI car. Try starting the engine with your foot flat to the floor, and then after a couple of seconds cranking, slowly bring your foot up off the gas, this is the procedure to clear a flooded EFi engine.
Its something to do with the music you were playing....whack in an Abba CD, top that off with a George Thorogood song and see what happens.
is the fuel pump even working? turn the key two clicks and you should hear the fuel pump prime if you have your door open.
as above most likely pump shat itself from running dry mine did that
nuh pump is good,
it has nothing to do with the cd player,
ive tried starting it on battery pack and on jumperleads
code 12 flahed repetatively, eg it didnt stop flashing until i turned the key off

I know your saying your fuel pump isnt the problem but depending on how much fuel you have in your tanka nd wat angle its jacked up on, my car sometimes had problems on slants with low fuel, the fuel pump would get a bit clogged wid the crap from the bottom of the tank. Just a bit of info that might help.![]()
nuh its on flat ground and weve unpluged one of the hoses from the fuel pump and turned the ignition and its pumpen fuel

whilst turning the key to try and start it, put a bit of pressure inwards on the key, like you're trying to push it further into the ignition, turn and see if that makes any change.
Try resetting the ecu.
You reset by removing the engine fuse for a few seconds. It wont fix your problem though (It wont really fix any problem). If your a member of the RACQ/RACV/whatever, I would get them out. If not, maybe you could become a member. Costs about $60 and they will come out and find the problem for you.
It sounds like you have a dud battery, as Harvs82 suggested. If the battery is a few years old, start by replacing it. If its not that old, swap it and see how the car goes.
does it even sound like its gonna start or does it just keep turning over?
it just sounds like its turning over but every now and again it sounds like its gonna start
