    Default Leather Manual Gear Boots..

Hey guys, i'm looking for a nice leather gear boot/surround to replace the poxy rubber one.

Mates got a real nice one, he said he got it from holden, just rang up and asked for a vs leather gear boot, reckons it was around 35, i dunno how long ago this was, but now at the same holden spares the item is now obsolete and they cant get their hands on em. This one was a nice darkish grey colour, stitching to match, and just sat real nice on his short gearstick.

Just wondering if theres any others anyone knows about besides the vy ss ones ( i think its the vy ss, grey with light grey stitching and the silver bit up the centre of the gear knob), just looking for something a bit cheaper. Want it to suit it and not look like a cheap momo boot or something like that.

Anyway, let me know, thatd be great.
    Cheers guys

Best way is to get your hands on an original one (in any condition) and take it to an auto upholsterer or similar who will cut up the original as a template and can make you a new one. I just recently got new gear and handbrake boots for mine made. Black leather (leatherette) with red stitching and it looks a treat with a complete factory appearance.

The guy I got to do mine gave me a discount because he also redid my hood lining for me at the same time and he charged me $30 per boot which I thought was pretty reasonable considering the top quality job he did. I'll try and remember to get a pic of them installed tonight and post it up here. I can give you the details of the guy that did mine if you want though it may be easier to deal with someone a little closer to Adelaide. Im sure there would be a few of them, just look in the phone book and if its sounding promising get them to show you some of their work to check if its up to spec.

Just a thought, how does the standard rubber boot install into the plastic shifter suround? You might also need to chase up the rectangular shaped bit of plastic that is used to mount the leather/vinyl boots.

There is a guy on ebay that sells leatherette commodore gear and brake boots for $15 each with free postage. I asked for a gear boot but got sent a brake boot... still it was not bad for the price anyway.
There is also a guy who sells brand new genuine VS gear boots on ebay. He has a bunch of them and puts one up for auction every couple of months or so, but they bring good money.
