Good idea to just use some degreaser or soapy water and a pressure washer to remove the gunk thats in there. Much easier if you remove the entire coolant tank from the car, its easy enough to do as its only two screws.

Just remember though, if your coolant tank is looking like that, then chances are parts of your cooling system will be too, so if you haven't done so already, it might be an idea to give the entire system a really good flush out, and then refill with the correct grade quality coolant.

its most likely not not soil, its most likely the pellets that have caused the muck. New tank is an option

Agreeded with all methods mentioned, though if you dont have a high pressure gun try half filling with soapy water then put some small stones in about 5-6 and hold your hand over the filler hole and shake the s**t out of it.

On coolant grade, most coolant you buy is 1997 grade stuff mixed with soft water (deminralised/distilled) that has stuff that will lube your water pump seals etc.. so no more 3 lube pellets from holden, lol
P.S rain water from a clean R/water tank works well to as it contains no ground minerals.

Howdy, just did mine whuch was pretty clean anyway but I removed the tank, rinsed out with warm water then 1/2 filled with hot water and added 1 finnish power ball dishwasher tablet, shook around till it desolved topped up with hot water, had a coffee then rinsed it out, came up like a new one. Tablets are slightly or rather very alkaline.

dude - degreaser. Old mate at the top was on the money, thats how I did mine. If you have trouble, flood the c.u.n.t with degreaser, chuck some gravel in, put the cap back on and shake it like an english baby-sitter with an un-wanted red-headed love-child. Tally-Ho!

yep, degreaser or the finish power ball will work great. The metho didn't work cos that brown crud is non-polar, so needs a non-polar solvent like hydrocarbon, or a strong detergent like the powerball to dissolve it. Whoever came up with the powerball idea THATS GOLD.
