Holden Commodore VS 1995

Our Holden Commodore travels for approx 150 kms and then we are without acceleration, the engine does idle but no acceleration. We pull over and turn off the engine for about 20mins we can then travel another 20+/- kms and start the proceedure all over again.The motor mechanics have been unable to resolve our problem after much expense. They have changed the thermostat and given it a full service. Can anyone point us in the right direction??
