Question Power range of an ecotec

Hi there. i was just wondering where the ecotec (with a few bolt ons, eg. CAI exhaust blah blah) is most powerful. Because i thought it was supposed to be right up there in the rev range (4-5000rpm) but mine is most powerful at around 3-4000rpm. after 4000 rpm it has absolutely nothing, it stays there forever just waiting to go into second and pick up again. i dont believe this is the way it is supposed to be. but i could be wrong. if there is something wrong, what could it be? (i have noticed it more after installing a shift kit stage 2) any help or info would be great. Thanks.

Yeah i've got the same problem. Ever since changing to manual i've noticed it a lot more. It goes harder and harder till it reaches about 3500 then it just doesn't accelerate any harder after that. I thought it had something to do with the larger TB i put on... like the manifold was struggling to flow the extra air properly at the top end... so I spent the weekend porting out the plenum by hand to get it flowing a little nicer. It only helped slightly, problem is still there.

Maybe your auto is the cause - mine will shift immediately from 1st to 2nd with a jolt and then to 3rd again with a jolt......no shift kit but auto was reco'd 20,000km ago so all clutches are still good. The real test is your time to 100kph - if under 10 secs its OK.
I find there is more power above 3000rpm. Maybe your cat is starting to block/collapse.

yeh she does it in 8 seconds (on average). is that normal for exhaust, cai, dr bob chip, shift kit, 280,000km? if so then it doesnt bother me about being less powerful at high revs.

Mine was low 8secs too... when I had those mods. But my VN with exactly the same mods (but 150,000km more than the VS) did it in low 7secs. Buik V6 is so under-rated.

well i think it just could be my car but from around 2700 to like 4000 its pushing all the way really hard!!!! all i have is 2 1/2 inch exaust with 2 inch extractors and twin pod filters in front ...... if i really push her all the way to my 6000 red line i can get close to hitting 100 in second just at shift point

my old calais would do about 115 in second, possibly just under, So 100 in second should be manageable

I used to cross the line on the 1/8th mile with 3.08 gears at exactly 125km/h in 2nd. That's doing stuff all revs, 5500 at the most. That was only a 5 litre which don't like to rev as high as a ecospec can. This is generally the shift point I put into VR/S 5 litres with a small cam (about 125km/h)

I know this isn't what is needed but HEY why not ............ just quietly .......... a little touch of positive air pressure and your power will pull way hard past 3500rpm
