Hi guys first time poster here.
Before I go to far I know the inevitable, "why not do it to your current ride" will pop up etc etc. My answer is I'm in love with the shape of vs series and always have been and the 5lt sound is pure horn. Not out to break records on the strip, just want a nice tough looking street car as post vs series they just don't really do it for me as such. Looking for roughly 320kws and would be looking at the use of a charger to get those numbers.
Am I better of financially going the 5.7ltr stroker so instead of going a 304 to 355 with a rebuild I could jump to 383 for the same approx cost? I have a feeling it doesn't work like that which in case wouldn't justify me spending the extra for the gts over a clubby.
Advantages of manual over automatic?
Cheers
If your not after monster power gains the 304 to 355 stroker is plenty of grunt while still being a decent daily driver and you can set up a decent stroker for 7 to 10g depending if your doing any work yourself.
As for the auto or manual i converted mine to manual last year and found the difference to be amazing more torque through the range alot more throttle response its a totally different car takes some practice getting the launches right though ! really it depends on your preferance for auto or manual though. What kind of charger were you looking at?
Ok, forgive my ignorance and age here.
From memory and my old Chevy 350 days,
350 ci = 5.7 ltr. The old 350 Chev and the new Gen III
355 ci is a stroked and first oversize bore 304. The 215 kW engine option in the VS Senator/Grange.
383 ci. It WAS a Chevy 350 with a 400 Chev crank to lengthen the stroke to 383. whats it now?
Is this what you are talking about?
Anyhow, I have a VS 5.0. Everyone i know who has a stroker 5.0 is exceptionally happy with it. IMHO it's one of the best VFM mods you can do.
I like VS Caprices so much, I bought 2... and a WH Grange!
383 is same principle as a 355, but going further with stroke/bore to get capacity. i've heard with 383 you have to strengthen the block in key areas (by use of grout) as you have to bore it within an inch of its life
to the OP, a 5.7 stroker IS a 355, or close enough. the 3 capacities 304, 355 and 383 all use the same 5l block (though it's molested for the stroker). unless of course you're referring to an LS1 conversion
