    Default Best cold air inductions

I have been told the best cold air inductions are CDA intakes, but how much better if at all oves the ss inductions. apparently due to being over the radiator in the vr/s 5ltrs it soaks up heat, if any1 knows please help!!!

I cant say what the differences are, but im sure as both being CAI there wont really be a huge difference. If your looking at shaving off 0.1 of a second on your 1/4 time then this is something you should be fretting over.

Otherwise, pick one and shove it on!!

Id say most people modify the airboxes further than orignal anyway. Im fitting a pod filter and making a plastic surround. theres plently of ways to go about it, but as long as its kept away from heat as much as possbily and gets cool air, she'll be right!!

from the VT onwards they have the aircharger kits, unfortunately for the VR/VS's its not that easy. you could try the MACE engineering idea of the pod n surround (its on ebay, but doin it urself would be way cheaper) or just any OTR then a decent panel filter. Im guessin the pod would work better as youd get more air coming over the light but not sure

Just get the genuine Holden S/C CAI and open the mouth a bit. Only around $50-$55. Nobody has provided any conclusive proof that a pod works any better than a panel on an N/A engine. The engine and the TB can only draw so much air and a panel is more than adequate.

Depends on your front end too... the front end i got on my old vs provided no air at all over the radiator so i went for a pod setup.
If you have a stock front end, id stick with the otrcai. they work well!

Use the VS V8 one then, it sits on the radiator shroud better. Thats the only real different between the 6 and the 8.

Cheapest damn way to do it, and it will work twice as well as any expensive CAI, I guarantee it. Mine cost me $20 all up

Yea you say that, but how many so called people after the factory look have aftermarket wheels, boned suspension, painted engine covers, loud exhaust etc, I have a pod in a box and have also had the factory type OTR CAI, and my 5L works alot better with the enclosed pod, mine is very similar to the mace engineering one, with a little bit of foam on the top to seal against the bonnet, and a large intake from the front bar.

The mace engineering cai is awesome! When i originally got my starr manifold, i had the hsv induction hooked upto it. when i got the mace cia, it went from 172rwkw to 188rwkw. Went heaps better and sounded way tougher!! if you want to spend the 250ish plus pod filter, i think this is the way to go. if you want pix i can text em to you..

the bottom of my airbox does not allow a cai to be fitted! unless you have to modify the box? it has a pipe coming out pointing towards the headlight. some SV crap. i think i might do mortons idea, my airbox does make it very easy to do that!

it looks exactly the same as immortalities, but costs 10x more. they are from ebay:
COLD AIR INTAKE TO SUIT HOLDEN VN-VP V8 - eBay Air Filters, Induction Kits, Performance Parts, Car Parts, Accessories, Cars, Bikes, Boats. (end time 24-Nov-08 19:49:50 AEDST)

i mean it probably works (not 16rwkw LOL), but for the price a stock cai would be exactly the same.

Looks well made but I suspect the gains would be around 0-3 kw max. The HSV style intakes seem much more cost effective for similar or better gains.

can't beat my $20 bit of alloy. as for the debate of filter types, if a standard panel filter was like sucking through 2 straws then the K&N panel filter would be like sucking through 3 straws, the engine does just a little less work to draw in that same amount air and that is where the savings are made. then of course you go for the POD filter and it would be like sucking through 4 straws, just that little bit easier again. in my opinion the POD gives a better throttle response. i've run both the standard airbox with K&N and unshielded POD and the even then the POD gives better response. then with the CAI it's a winner. if i was to run a standard airbox i'd go with the Morton style 100mm pipe ducted to the front bar

i run a super6 CAI onthe missus VS and it makes stuff all difference. i certainly wouldn't waste my money buying one againe

There's power hiding in the length of intake piping between the throttle body and the atmosphere not in the filter :0. I'll say no more you can do you own experiments
