Hi All,
Why is the Battery light in my VS illuminated?
Whats the trigger?
Thnaks!
try checking the charge coming out of your alternator
if its low maybe replace the regulator on the back of the alternator
if its fine check the wiring from the alternator to your battery
if its an ecotec theres a post at the top of the forum for a similar problem
hope that helps
Battery or alternator first port of call... bush mechanics prescribes a bang with a spanner on the alternator and see if it starts charging again. Is it only on at idle or goes out at higher RPM.
As the above posts - usually the brushes wear down and no longer touch the commutator/slip rings - quickly and easily inspected by removing the brush holder (which incorporates the regulator). Its located at the back of the alternator and retained by 2 flat head screws. A new regulator with brushes is about $50.
check the brown wire coming off the positive battery terminal going towards your alternator. its a fusible link, so check it with a multimeter to make sure the wire still works.

alt is charging at 14.01V.
Battery is of unknown condition. So could it be the battery?
14.01 Vdc is perfect....there is a charge warning light wire that connects to the alt as well - goes into the regulator and is brown - maybe check that this is plugged in correctly. I think this turns the warning light on if volts from the alt are not higher than battery voltage and this normally happens if the alt has problems but yours seems to be putting out the correct charge. I'd also check condition of battery terminals.
