    Default motor oil leak

Hi all, this morning i noticed that i had some oil dripping onto my driveway so i had a look underneath my car & it seems to be dripping from my oil filter but can't see exactly were it is leaking from, i changed the oil a few months back, i remember that i must have over tightened the oil filter because i made a bit of a dent in the filter when tighten it up, could this have stuffed my filter up ? is there anywere near the filter were it could be leaking from and running down onto the filter ?
    appreciate any thoughts
    thanks

Could be coming from the rocker covers and running down, or perhaps from the front crankshaft main seal, both our VS commodores did that here, it weeps out of there onto the sump and then drips down off that.

Best idea is to degrease the whole engine, give it a good wash down and then check it again a few days later after driving some decent mileage... that way you will get a better idea on where the oil is coming from.

I've had the same and found the oil filter had loosened off. Another time I found power steering oil had leaked from the PS reservoir, ran down the PS hose, dripped onto the filer and then dripped off the filter onto the road. By the time it hit the road it had changed colour from red to black so it had me stumped for a while.

can be the power steering pump leaking down onto the oil filter. See if there is oil on the top of the filter, or just on the bottom !!

i've had the exact same problem..happended twice both with ryco filters so i'm guessing they don't like to be overtightened and aren't overly strong..i ended up getting a genuine filter from holden which solved my problem, hope this helps

Thanks a lot guys, it turned out to be leaking from the oil filter itself, there was a fine crack in it that i must have done it myself when i tightened it up to much last time i changed it, i replace it this morning [ properly this time ] & let it run for a while to check for leaks and it was fine.

    thanks again everyone,

    Rony
