Brisbane - Transmission Replacement

Hi,

I have a 97 VS wagon with 7HDD T-bar transmission that has failed (no reverse). Can anyone recommend a wrecker or transmission shop that will put in a replacement transmission from the wreckers at a reasonable price?

I've been quoted $1,100 by one trans shop and 2 others will not do it, they will only do reconditioned for $1,900 or so.

$1,100 seemed a bit much for second hand (non reconditioned) and I'm a bit short for the full replacement at the moment.

There's no easy way out unfortunately - I was in an identical situation to you about 3 years ago - sun gear failure which is expected around 200,000km. I was quoted $850 for just the sungear replacement or $1850 for a full reco incl exchange torque converter(which I chose). But that was 3 years ago when my VS was worth maybe $8000...now its worth maybe $4000 and if the box failed again I think I'd go for one from the wreckers for $350 to $700 or so with a 3 month warranty.
I cannot recommend a wrecker unfortunately....all you can do really is really trust your gut feeling and read the fine print. Good Luck.

the only cheap way to go about it is to do it ur self the last 1 i did cost me 350
