ive been having trouble removing the door moulds omn my vs exec. i have removed the front and rear bar tape (that was easy)then i removed the moulds on the front guards with the "HOLDEN" badge on them and it left a heap of siciflex on the guard
and i removed the door moulds which i found them easier to remove then the ones on the front guards it left 2 lines on the doors the top line was easy to get off but the boot line i cannot get off like the stuff on the guards!
has anybody had this trouble before? if so what can clean it up without respraying it?
get some fishing line or string and use a motion to weaken the glue behind the moulds...then once its loose enough rip the **** off...
heat the stuff up with a hair dryer or leave it in the sun...
and use wax and grease remover and a screwdriver wrapped in a cloth or a hard sided sponge and get at it...thats ALL i used to get mine off and i didnt take any paint off looked perfect underneath minus a few scratches due to getting impatient.... but after hours of doing it you kinda get ****ed off.....
it was well worth it though my mate went to a panel beaters to do it and cost him $300.. id rather the cost of the whole day.
the other option is a caramel wheel some people have had bad experiences with them though and some havent... I have never used one...maybe someone who has can tell you about them... but I think if you are patient enough and dont care about having aches and pains in your hands for awhile you can do it my way with good results![]()
the wax and grease remover as mentioned above works heaps good. just give it a wash and polish afterwards
thanx heaps guys i asked one of the guys at work today and he mentioned prep-sol or thinners. but i guy who lives in my street said to use a very sharp razor blade and be very very f***ing careful. he has quite a list of nice cars ive got to go and take a few pics on sunday and post them up here somewhere he got a vy senator worked 310rwkw, blown vn bt1, 2 original vk brocks, a vt gen3, and a vx ss. anyways guys thanx for the tips i might go and gives the fishing line a trick and i will post up some pics when im finished.
gettin my wheels in 2 weeks. oh and if you go and visit 'pics of my vs' thread you will see what my car looks now its been lowered.![]()
i gave the fishing line a go didnt work, brought some wax and grease remover still no joy this is as far as i got with it and my hands are killing me i am this close to attacking it with a heap of nasty 36grit sand paperlol that could work. i ended up using a sharp blade to get the bulk of it off now there is just a fine line .

i have the same proble cant get that black shi t off so i've bought some calais/statesman door moulds which i just need to get painted then it shall look sweet lol
Im at around the same stage as you. I would have prefered to have done it in a day, but my sons been seck so its taken me a few days so far. Im just going to wait till it gets to maybe 36C so it gets soft from the heat, otherwise I might crank the Mrs. hair drier out on it.
just use a caramel wheel
im might sound like the biggest bitch on this forumbut im gettin real impatient as ive tried the fishing line, metho, a sharp blade, wax and grease remover and nothing seems to work
all i did was scratch the **** out of the paint
so im just goin 2 get some 80git paper and attack em with that as well as the door handles and the mirrors that should do the trick
im gettin my mate to spray it all at his work
.
or u could have used a caramel wheel see if one of your local panel beaters have one, you need to do more research so when you do a job you do it right first
caramel wheel doesn't work on earlier commodores not matter what you do.
I grabbed a caramel wheel off of ebay for like $12.50 and went at it... if u do that just take ur time and be careful... It all turned out great apart from my front right hand guard. I rushed it a little and damaged my paint a bitbut yeah like gustov give a caramel wheel a shot. It should clean it up nicely and save u needing to get it sprayed.
Didn't work for my paintI went slow fast every bloody thing...
I think the best thing to do is to try and soften the sikaflex with fuel and then maybe hit it with the caramel wheel.
thanx guys well im goin to see my mate on friday anyways to see his boss i will suggest the caramel wheel to him and see wat he says but i still need to get my mirrors and door handles done. anyhow also im after the crome strip around the windowsi think there off the calais.
yeah calais's have the chrome strip round the windows... but yeah on my paint the caramel wheel worked a dream but i got a panel off a wreck with the same paint code as mine after i fell asleep while drivingbut as it turns out the caramel wheel didnt like the paint on that panel

not sure if it reacts differently between the 2 pac of a vs and the acrylic of the earlier commodores
I used a caramel wheel, did the job perfectly on my VS - here's the most recent pic, it's an executive but I added the chrome window surrounds, colour coded the boot garnish and mirrors, got the windows tinted, added the clear tail lights/reflectors, added the VE Omega badge, added an SS spoiler and changed the indicators to clear VX ones... attached before and after pics, without side moulds changes the whole look of the car
Mine was a sticker so I just peeled it off (along with the paint, damn 12 year old paint - good thing alaskan comes in a can), for the higher models I'm not sure but would guess extremely hot water, pick off one end and keep pouring the hot water while peeling SLOWLY?
mine was just a sticker as well the front and rear bumper came off like a treat. but anyways i went to visit my local panel beater and he said i was pretty much lookin at a full respray but he said it would be a shame to have to spray it as it is such good condition.so i have setlled on getting some vs ss body moulds the red ones (obviosly) as i was umming and arring between those and none in the first place so yeah im getting those on saturday cant wait 2 weeks for my wheels aswell and he quoted me $100 to paint all my door handles and mirrors which i didnt think was too bad. i will try and find you some before and after pics of the front and rear bar
i just remembered i got a quote for $200 for the ss body mould including front and rear bars front guards and door moulds i will post up some pics when im finished
