Hi guys,
went to work today and degreased the bay, it started ok after the clean and ran for around 30 seconds then died.
took half hour to dry out in the sun and tried to crank again, after twenty minutes cranking it finally spluttered then started. run for another half minut then ewhen i revved it, spluttered missfired then stopped again.
I pulled a plug and it was dry but when cranking could smell petrol badly. spark is there and when i turn ign on i can hear the pump prime.
it will start normal after about half hour and idle for about minute then stop abruptly like it was turned off with a key or starved of fuel.
Run error codes and come up 12 then 22 then 23.when its shorted out the throttle body buzzes.
It is a v8 vr series 2 manual also got in on sequential gas injection. it does the same thing on petrol or gas.
any suggestions would help.
let it dry out over night then try it again tomorrow
Water has got under one of the so called water tight plugs. Check all injector connections, crank angle sensor plug and all other electrical plugs with the rubber boots on them !!!! coil areas.
did yo clean it with high preasure.
also did you cover the air intake before you wet it.
take the air filter out then try to start it
I did clean it with high pressure as i clean all my cars. the throttle body di cop a fair more cleaning as it was caked up in 200k of grease and muck. may buy new throttle body and try it out also.
i do remember the spark did look a little weak but the plugs have been changed to a bprs5 range.
thanks for all the comments and suggestions guys, helps out a new guy immensley.![]()
The DTC codes indicate problems with your Throttle Position Sensor and the Intake air temperature sensor (I assume from the code 23 that you have an auto?):
22 TPS Voltage Low -auto trans code
23 IAT Voltage High
I'd disconnect both those sensors and dry them thoroughly before trying to start it again.

Funny thing is it is a manual not an auto so cant see how the TPS low voltage applies to my car.
Hopefully after a few days sitting around they will dry up a bit.
Car stuck at my workshop in sutherland.
atleast now i know what to look at first.
finally got back to the car this morning and after sitting all weekend it fired up first kick.
Idled and drove it out and ran for 5 minutes perfect.
Thinking it was fixed i left to head on home and made it around the corner till i layed into it and she slowly puffed out and stalled.
walked back to Holden (next to my workshop) and bought TPS sensor for $90.... put her in and same, dead.
Pulled out the front plug and saw spark had died.
Luckily i had another coil spare that i took with me from my project motor.
Was pain in neck getting it out from behind the inlet ontop of the bellhousing, especially still being warm, changed it over and hey presto, LIFE
Guess the unit had copped some water or is cracked somewhere.....
now the water temp on the dash does not work, Where is it located? may have bumped when pulling off the throttle body?
Thanks all for their help and suggestions.
Checked the error codes again and it went 12, 22 then 36.
These will need to be reset now i guess as i know it had a vac leak at the inlet for LGP setup, new TPS is in there.
