how do u tell if you have IRS or not?
i have a 1999 vs ute ex cop car that needs a new exhaust system but not sure wether it has IRS or not..
any ideas?

No VS utes came with IRS, so you will have the solid axle rear end. First ute to come out with the IRS setup was the VU.

As above, Utes and wagons were live axle until VT (think VU come with IRS, not sure tho)

The VU did have it(IRS),i had a poster of the SS ute and it said something about having IRS rear for sedan like handling.

I think it was optional across the range, so you can find other models with it installed.

Dont think ive seen it as just IRS without ABS aswell but ok yes or just an IRS badge

IRS was an option in all the sedans and as for the Acclaim,not sure if it was the same in both in VR and VS but the Acclaim had IRS,ABS and passenger airbag as standard.

Yeah they do, and just ABS badges. I have an IRS/ABS one out of a calais in my car, but will be changing it to a ABS/Antilock braking system one, cause its a wagon (no IRS)


Levymetals HSV Calais doesn't have ABS, so his badge just says IRS on it.

if exhaust runs over the rear axle its live axle, if it goes under its IRS. correct me if im wrong?

With enough patience, time, money, you can. Not worth the effort though.

There was a wagon with irs on ebay at one stage, but i think it was a converted stato
