    Default Replacing stock stereo?

    Hi folks,
While I have the dash out of my Statesman I had the thought of replacing the original tape deck (10 stacker in boot that doesnt work properly). Seeing as these things dont seem repairable and used, possibly also faulty unit still cost a bit I might just add a better cd head unit that has the latest mp3/ipod capabilities.
Ok without measuring are the Holden Eurovox heads a standard size and what about the plugs. If possible I just wanted to swap and go, or close to it!
    cheers

holden heads are same size as 99% of aftermarket units but wiring is different and it wont be plug and play, all new stereos come with their own plugs and wiring which will means you eiter cut the holden plug off and connect each wire by either soldering or just wire connectors or you can go to most car audio places which has a small harness which you solder or connect to the new stereos harness and then that will plug into the holden plug, so you dont have to remove the holden plug and if you decide to sell your car you can easily replace your factory unit

You can buy adapters (I think Aerpro make a lot of them), but it really is quite easy to wire a head unit up. There is a eurovox wiring chart somewhere around the site, and your new headunit will come with a wiring diagram

Thanks, found the wiring chart. Will my steering wheel volume etc controls still work the newer unit?

Not normally. I think someone found a way to make it work but you have to be a bit handy with a soldering iron

I managed to get the electric aerial to operate when ever the stereo is 'on' but that also means staying up when a cd is on. Theres 3 wires for the Body Control Module that probably control this and detect the difference between radio and a cd. Is there another way to wire this and have the aerial go down for cd use?
    cheers
