    Default Shift Controller??

I did a search and couldnt find anything
This might be a stupid question, but is there something that I can buy to control how hard my car shifts gears. I have a Stage 2 kit w/corvette servo and want to be able to make it shift softer for when I have my son in the car. A friend of mine said I could get a shift controller and turn it down or something? Ive never heard about it before so I dunno if it exists lol. My mrs wont let my son in my car as it shifts real hard, she decided this when i broke my drivers seat rail shifting second while granny driving and im kind of concerned it would hurt his neck since he's only 8 mths old.

any help appreciated cause I hate driving around in her ford festiva

The shift behaviour in a non-modified auto is controlled by the MEMCAL programming. I just had a retune done on my V8 auto by Greenfoam. He tuned it so 1st to 2nd change is smooth, and only when the "Power" button is on, does it shift a little harder. Before the re-tune, the 1st to 2nd shift was very hard regardless of throttle opening and after a while became quite annoying.

I'm sure there are others out there with better experience who may comment with regards to the shift kit you fitted and how much influence a re-tuned memcal may, or maynot have.

I'd rather not re-tune it as when my son isnt in the car I want it to shift hard. I just hope there is another way to do it. Thanks.

I think it will be your stage 2 shift kit, regardless of your tune.
Did you get the corvette servo too?

there is part of the problem then, the tune could probably drop line pressure a little but I doubt it would make a huge difference, go to the general section there is a thread there called something like "what is a corvette servo" it explains how they work and what they do, it's something to do with engaging the shift quickly so the trans is not slipping between the gear, or free spinning between the gear shift or something like that.

Lowering the line pressure via a tune or an electronic controller (Also known as a stage .5 or a stage 1 shift kit) with your modded internals may not be good for the trans anyway.

Thats just my two cents, plenty of other people with allot more info then me though.

if you didnt already have a mechanical shift kit installed you could of gotten an electronic one which would do as your mate said - meaning you could turn it off when you wanted it to shift normally and turn it on when you wanted firm shifts.
as you stand now i dont believe there's alot you can do, other than rework the 'box again to make it shift softer.
is the shift kit newly installed? reason i ask is because it shouldnt shift that hard under low throttle, its variable in accordance with the tps (so more throttle = firmer/quicker shift). although when they are new its quite firm till it settles in a bit.

It was pretty new when it was shifting that hard. It's about a year old now, but she still thinks it's still too much for my sons neck. I guess I'll just have to get used to the Festiva
