    Default new brake pads

Hey everyone. Just after a bit of advice. My rear pads are completely worn down, so tomorrow I am off to buy some new ones. I was at Bursons yesterday and was told Bendix ones they had were $80 odd, or their own brand, which he said was made by Bendix, for $47. I will probably check out Supercheap Auto and Repco aswell because they are on the way to Bursons anyway.
The advice I guess I am after is just to know what pad would be suitable for me. I don't thrash my car (well not much), but i want a decent quality set for a decent price. If anyone can help out with prices etc. it would be much appreciated. Thanks

hey nath, i'm usin Bendix ultra premium from supercheap. I like them cos they stop, handle whatever i do to them, are easy to bed in, and are very quiet and don't squeel like the cheapies. they are about $60 unless you wait for a special.
btw, theres a hills area thread in the nsw section.

I've always put bendix on my cars. Cheap pads are just cheap and nasty. You pay for quality.

youll think im a total muppet for asking this, but im still learning about cars, servising and that sorta thing, is there any way to tell how warn down the pads are, other than thru the pedals? e.e can i get under the car and have a look? or do i have to remove the wheels and open up the calipers?

sorry for being dumb about it, any help would be great

    cheers

The calipers have a slot in them so that you can see the brake pads and judge how much pad material is left. You might have to take off the wheel if you don't have mags that allow you to see the caliper, or use a mirror on a handle and a torch to see.

another easy way is to stick your head behind the wheel and have a look at the inner pad .. use a torch that will help. If there is less than 3mm of pad left you should change them. new pads have about 10 or 11mm of meat on them.
