hey guys,
i previously put a thread up about an issue i have it is a ticking/ hissing noise underneath my car, it's a vs 5 speed manual, at first what i thought it was an exhaust problem but i got it checked out and gaskets replaced and no leaks, but as i listen closely it's actually coming from the gearbox im pretty sure and that i only got my clutch replaced recently... any help?
also my gear stick moves when in gear and was wondering if it is a problem that i should worry about or could maybe just ignore and get by?
thrust bearing

does it start or stop the noise when u release or engage clutch or is it always there

when it idles in neutral you can hear it a bit with my window down its really loud in 2nd and 4th. 1st and 3rd you can't and a little bit in 5th. it gets louder and faster as the revs pick up
sure its the box and not your tappets / rockers

im pretty sure it is because before i got the clutch replaced the noise was never there until after the clutch was put in. i checked the rockers and they seem fine
odd. very odd.... without hearing it i cant say, but worn thrust bearing can make humming noises but ticking and hissing sounds bad... very bad

i seam to have the same problem, a mate of mine reckons its the tappets/rockers, it certanly sounds like it is them, if i have the bonnet up the sound comes from were the tappets and rockers are, how ever when the bonnet is down its even louder and comes out the bottom, mine is an automatic tho, is it mostlikley the tappets etc or is there somthing more cinister happning? its just a ticking sound
Could also be from the exhaust where the cat converter is - when replacing the clutch the mechanic would have disconnected the exhaust to remove gearbox and possibly caused a leak.
