I was talking to mechanics this arvo whilst getting my pink slip done and they believe putting super lows in creates more pressure on the steering rack and link pins and a few other things I cannot remember that will leave me with constant problems with the car later down the track... can anyone tell me if theyre full of ****? I was keen on super lows but maybe ill just use the SS lip kit to give it a lower look instead and keep my FE2 height...

.......anyone?
put the right shocks in and you should be fine
1995 Manual HSV Clubsport
Wade Cam :: 9.2:1 CR :: Pacemaker headers :: Twin 2.5" Exhaust :: VT Brakes
1991 Supercharged VN Berlina
9 PSI SC14 Intercooled :: Genie headers :: Twin cats :: HM Twin 2.25 exhaust :: 3.45:1 LSD
If you do a proper job, then it should all be fine.
O.k so for a proper job I obviously need the coils and shocks ... what else?
Get sum lowered Springs, Sum new Shorter Shocks for ur model, sum new bump stops wouldnt go a stray either.
And thats it.
Rip the old onse out, put in the newies.
You mite have to get a rattle gun onto ya bolt for the shocks on the strut tower, mine kept twisting n wouldnt undo until i got rattle gun onto it
Can't put any more 'strain' on it as you are keeping the same suspension travel arc.
i have had super lows in mine for over a year, and had SSL for 3 years prior to that..
had to replace both rack ends once, and one is getting a little sloppy again.
haven't heard anyone have the same problems... but, then again, not many would know how to test them properly.

naaar aslong as u do a prober job of it u will be right and dont cut corners, shox springz n ****
double post
no im not implying it being detrimental... just putting forth what i had discovered from carefully observing the wear on the rack ends.
The front end of mine gets totally checked for alignment every time i touch the susp. so im not neglecting anything. Its just something unusual that i observed

just sloppy as in the ball joint in the rack ends loosen up. when i say 'slop' its a little bit of movement. enough to alter the toe fractionally.
If you dont test it by hand you would never know.. till the car starts to wander under brakes lol
The guys who do the Roadies here in S.A showed me

Fair enough. Well Jax have told me everything is "tight" at the moment under there so I'll go for the super lows but done properly and just keep an eye on everything from there on.
Thanks alot for all the inputs guys![]()
By the way what did the steering racks set you back?
You will be ok.. cars inevitably wear parts out so i wouldnt worry too much. just keep an eye on tyre wear thats a good gauge
they are called "rack ends" about $100 each i think they were..

Ah ok I was expecting more thats a relief.
Yeah I will keep an eye on the tyres once I have put them in thanks alot
Tie rod ends should only be $20 each, and ball joints aren't too expensive either. All easy and cheap to have someone change for you while a wheel alignment is getting done.

Yeah my mechanic said the tie rod ends will be the only things to suffer. On cars of this age anyway they will be well and truley worn so if they havent been changed them this is a good oppurtunity.
lol i think we are getting a bit mixed up here.
in all my posts i was referring to the INNER- rack ends. Sorry if i confused anyone.
There are the tie rod ends on the outside, and the inner rack ends on the end closer to the steering rack itself, under the rack boots.

Oooh, they should be fine. Get yourself a set of Nolathane Z-shape swaybar linkpins to help reduce steering stress, and they should be fine. Ran superlows for quite a while in my VP (and that car suffered 80,000km of hard cornering) and the rack never sprung a leak or became sloppy. I had those nolathane link pins fitted on it though. Tight as a nun's, that thing was.
