at about 2500rpm car shudders when driving and when stationary in neutral. Just had it in at holden they replaced engine mounts still same thanx for f@#k all. It has new coil, leads and plugs. Anyone had similar problem or know wat it could be. Any ideas would be great.
I was thinking bout changing harmonic balancer, wat are the symptoms of faulty one and any way to test

It seemed alright a couple of weeks ago when I was under the car. I don't know if it makes a difference but its manual the beautiful getrag 5 (sarcasm).
Just looked at the harmonic balancer can see very very fine hair line cracks in rubber, is this all it takes for one to be screwed

Would not have thought so. more like a dead spark plug or leads on wrong.

    rotor button or injector.

Nah, water pumps are easy. Like changing a wheel Nothing can possibly go wrong, unless you fill your radiator with kerosene afterwards. I'd go so far as to say that changing a water pump is less of a fuss than changing spark leads on a V8

    Changing water pump VN/VP/VR

It's almost exactly the same procedure for a V8 as for the V6, only you have to remove the clutch fan first, and recude the slack on the alternator in order to slip the belt off. To tension the belt again afterwards, just pull the alternator up as hard as you can, while you tighten the slide bolt on the bracket

Ok i've done the water pump, (piece a cake) but still have vibration. even with all belts off. from wat i've been told if belts are off and still happens its not balancer. This is the third set of plugs and leads i've been through looking for another problem (coil fault). Doesn't really sound like its missing. could it be in the 5 speed even if it does it in neutral. I'm lost for ideas. please help

Could be clutch/pressure plate/ flywheel related. Hows the grear stick feel - and sign of vibration through that?

I'm leaning towards pressure plate too. It might be the flywheel but i dont know how that would get out of balance though??? Unless it has a bit of clutch lodged in it.

If the pressure plate has lost a finger or 2 you will have a few small bits in the bottom of the tranny cover. Take the cover off and have a look of some bits.

For the pressure plate or cluch to be out of balance you will have some bits I'd say.

Just dropped ute off this morning to a mechanics (friend of a friend). hopefully they can find something, because I've just about used up all the patients i have. Thoughts of a drum of premium and a match keep going through my head.
