Replacing tranmission

Hey guys, wanted to know how big of a job replacing the transmission in a car was?

Got a VR commodore wagon just sitting here with a f*cked auto, so want to get it done up and replaced and get it sold.

How much do you think a mechanic would charge?

probly better off just doing it yourself if you have the know how or mates that do... me and a mate changed one over on a saturday n drove home in it in cay light =)

mechanic will take a good half day n charge 40+ an hour
