To show the current speed, you have to press both the up and down button when turning the key on.

You can change the way it operates - from memory I think you hold down the 3 buttons with the engine switched off, turn to accesories and keep holding buttons down - it will beep and 100 appears on the screen then press the set button.

As said above, you have to press the buttons for it to work. Your mate probably does this everytime before he starts his car.

I think the way Hako explained it will keep it in speedo mode everytime you start the car

I was told VN-VS it cant be set to stay on, you have to press the buttons everytime. VN/P i'm sure of, but never had a VR/S to try it.

I got it to stay on my old VS exec once. Pressed and held random buttons, and 100 did come up like hako said. Had some work done where the battery was disconnected and I could never even get the temporary one to come up again

No, anyone with a speed alert can do this. Press all three button, turn on your ignition and wait until it beeps and shows "100" on the display. Now press "set" and you're done. It will stay like this until you disconnect it or the battery.

    When I did what hako says, I get pre-set speeds, P1 = 60, P2 = 80, P3 = 100

up and down buttons pushed together brings the speedo up when you start the car.

you have to press all 3 buttons until 100 appears and the engine light flashes. then press set and it will stay there without the annoying flashing orange light

Tried that, didn't work for me, I really don't mind though as I never use the digital speedo anyway

If I recall correctly, It takes quiet a while before 100 comes up - Most stop pressing it before it does.

However, It dosn't work on my wifes VR SII, it seems rather random on the cars it works on

Turn your VS's speed alert module into a permanent digital speedo (not for models with trip computer)

Digital speedo will now be permanent. You can change it back to speed alert by repeating above process.
