Seems like a fairly good deal, the price is good. Sounds like you have already taken it for a drive, but make sure its a thorough one, theres probably a good chance that it has been driven hard. Make sure you do all the tests on it, eg: drive around roundabouts at varying speeds, listening for knocks or vibrations, check under the car for leaks etc. Also check how much towing has been done with the car
thanks for the help mate, hopefully be taking it for a drive tomorrow, i'm sorta expecting it to be driven hard being a manual vs, but hopefully nothing too bad. are there any main problems with vs or ecotec that i should lookout for? would $4000 be a good deal? Thanks again.
Sounds too good to be true *sigh*
Check it out though.
Every car I go to see like this - the engine no etc wont match up or something dreadful like that..... *sighs over vs clubby for 1g*
Yea 4 grand is a fairly decent deal. Take notice of how the gearbox feels during shifts, if it feels rough or loose then thats a good indication that its been shifted hard and fast a few too many times, ideally it should shift smoothly if the synchromesh is in good condition.
Maybe I am being a bit harsh and I am sure my learned friends here will shot me down.
But 4k for a VS?? Still think it is too much. I just brought a wagon for 2.5k and still think it wasnt cheap.
4k can buy you VT, albiet with a few more Kms and not a manual.
I am also very dubious of KM`s car are reported to have.
It seems a lot of VS and VR`s have below average kms.
Ten year old car should have on average around 200k to 250k kms.
Unless it can be backed up with service history etc I would be suspcious of any car with lower Kms.
Do VR & VS have issues with odo breaking??
yeah vs have issues with the odo breaking, i would pay 4k and i havent even seen it, alot of vr/vs have low k's mine only just kicked over to 100k. if the cars been looked after it is worth 4k cause itll look after you.
100k KMs
A lot of VR/VS must have been orginally owned by seniors or someone in a small town??
100k Kms over 10 years is only 22Kms per day on average if my maths is somewhere in the ball park.
I am not doubting your car claims your has done those KM`s.
However like I have stated it seems VR/VS have way below average KM`s than other cars.
Why is this so?
I have just brought a VSII Wagon and it has 237K Kms. I would consider this average and what one would expect giving its age. However it compared to other VR/VS cars it is high?????
With orginal post the car has a clubsport gearbox???? Was it orginally a auto?????
It does have books, however these can be easliy faked
I dont mean to upset anyone here or doubt claims etc. I guess I am just getting a little older, I have been in the car game years ago. Buy and sell cars every few months as I get bored with cars easily. So I do know a little about cars.
I have had just about every model commodore from a VC SL/E 308, VK 134 Pack etc etc to VT SS. Several VL`s including the first VL Calais in West OZ with 5l Inj motor.
OK rant over, let the flames begin.
